He Refused to Give His Cousins Even a Cent From His Inheritance After They Found Out He Turned $100,000 to $3,000,000 Within 6 Years!

This Redditor made sound financial decisions when he made millions out of his $100,000 inheritance! But now, he might face legal battles because his cousins greedily want a piece of it!

Some Background

When OP (Original Poster) was a kid, a young widow moved into the house next to theirs. She had no one, so OP’s parents took her in.

He said, “Dad helped around her house, and Mom always cooked extra for her. She started attending college, and my parents wanted to make her life a bit easier since she had no one.”

Aunty J

This lovely young woman next door is someone OP refers to as Aunty J. He said she babysat him, took him shopping, and gave him as many gifts as his parents did. He said, “She was always there.”

His Grandma’s Executor

Apart from being adored by OP’s parents, OP’s paternal grandmother also loved Aunty J and treated her like her own child. So, when she passed away, she made Aunty J her executor.

OP mentioned that Aunty J was studying pre-law but switched to business management, making her even more qualified.

OP then said that his grandma’s will was very clear. She left some things to OP’s dad and the rest of his siblings, but her grandkids got everything else.

To avoid fights between her grandkids, she instructed in her will to sell everything and then equally divide everything between all seven of her grandkids. Then, OP added, “I guess she saw something I was too stupid to see.”

Following Her Wishes

As the executor, Aunty J did exactly as OP’s grandma wanted. Then, one day, she gave everyone a check amounting to a little over $100,000.

OP then shared that his cousins were all older and were ecstatic with the money they had received; they started paying off debts, putting their deposits on houses, and more. OP was 18 during this time—6 years ago before this story was posted.

What Do I Do With the Money?

OP, being 18, didn’t know what he wanted to do with the money. He mentioned he didn’t have to consider tuition fees because his parents had already saved money for his college education.

He turned to Aunty J, and she told him to invest the money and also buy something for himself. He consulted his parents, and when they agreed, he asked Aunty J to help him invest his money.

OP Had Enough Money

OP shared that between his and his parents’ savings, he never had to dip into the $100,000.

He added that Aunty J gave the same advice to his cousins, but after using most of their inheritance to pay off debts, they used the rest to buy cars, go on vacations, and the like.

Christmas Get-Togethers

Fast forward to the holidays, OP said that his family met for a meal and to relax together before Christmas. During this time, he announced that he had gotten into the Harvard Business program.

Congratulations and Questions

The family congratulated OP for his achievement. Then, as OP said, “The topic naturally diverted to money and scholarships.”

He told them he didn’t need any scholarships because he could afford them.

I Have Enough to Live Comfortably!

His family members were confused about how he could afford it, and he explained that Aunty J helped him invest his money, and he’s now able to live the rest of his life comfortably.

He said he didn’t brag about the money but praised Aunty J so much. He also told them she was a genius; after all, she turned $100,000 into $3,000,000 in 6 years!

Give Us Money!

The next day, OP said he started receiving calls from his cousins asking him to share some of his money. OP refused, and they started accusing Aunty J of being unfair.

They believed Aunty J lied and gave OP more money than the rest because she loved him. They also refused to believe she could turn $100,000 into $3,000,000 and thought they were scammed by Aunty J.

We Will Sue!

OP didn’t give in, and they threatened to sue. However, because they didn’t do anything wrong, Aunt J said to “let them.”

To avoid conflicts, OP’s mom also suggested that he should share some with his cousins. But OP doesn’t want to.

We Invested in BTC!

OP added an edit when he received a DM saying his story was all bulls**t. So, he explained that they put money into Bitcoin.

He said, “J invested $80,000 of 100 along with her money in BTC. It was less than 1,000 at the end of 2016. When it started slipping, J sold everything in March this year.”

The Community’s Thoughts

Redditors believed that OP doesn’t owe his cousins anything. After all, they were given the same opportunities; it was up to them to decide where to spend their money.

A top comment was, “Give them nothing. You all had the same opportunities; you were just wiser with yours by investing it.” Another replied with, “F**k that; don’t give these money grubbers a cent! Let them sue you and waste their money. You definitely have the funds for a good lawyer. They can waste what little of the inheritance they have left—that’s if they have any left.”

They Will Just Be Greedy

As a follow-up, some also said that his cousins would demand more later, should he give in and share some of his money now. People advise OP not to listen to his mom!

A Redditor said, “If you give them money now to appease them, they will inevitably demand more later. It’s your money; you all got the same, but they decided to blow it. Like your aunt said: let them sue. Your mother is letting emotions cloud her judgment because this was bad advice.”

What Would You Do?

What do you think of this situation? How would you tell OP’s cousin they don’t deserve a penny?
