She’s been living peacefully in her apartment with her boyfriend for four years. But when a new downstairs neighbor moved in, her apartment life started to get messy!
Good Enough to Call Home
OP (Original Poster) has lived in the same apartment as her boyfriend for almost four years. Although it’s not the best place, she loves the location, and she’s never really had any problems there as she is a quiet tenant who keeps to herself.
Complaint After Complaint
On the other hand, her new downstairs neighbor has made a few foolish complaints, such as her running her garbage disposal. The most recent one, however, was rather ridiculous.
Apparently, he had told the management that there had been issues with her balcony.
Just Simple “Gardening”
A week before posting this story on Reddit, OP got a call asking if she had been throwing anything over her balcony, and she told the manager, “Absolutely not.”
OP wrote, “There are plants down below, so I had dumped a water bottle off into the plants before, but that’s not harming anyone.”
Finding the Cause
Due to that call, OP went to her balcony to “investigate.” She then noticed that her flower vase had fallen over and some water may have spilled down.
That’s the End of That
OP thought it wasn’t a big deal as there wasn’t too much water in the vase when the wind knocked it over. She, again, thought it would be the end of the silly complaints, but she was wrong.
A Suspicious Notice
The weekend passed, and OP got a “nasty” notice on her door saying she had a pet violation for not picking up after her dog and was fined $50. It also stated that she was at risk of terminating her lease because of her offenses.
But how could that happen when she doesn’t even have a dog?
Deny and Clarify
So, OP emailed the property manager and said she doesn’t have a dog and is not paying the fine. Then OP got a “ridiculous” response stating the manager received “several” complaints, even though she only has one downstairs neighbor.
Disgusting Balcony Accusations
The complaints were focused on urine coming from her balcony. Hence, the manager assumed OP was letting her dog pee on her balcony even though she didn’t have one.
OP added, “Then she says since I don’t have a dog, that means me or my boyfriend are peeing on our balcony, and that I’m still in violation of my lease! This was just comical at this point. My boyfriend and I have never done this.”
The Ultimate Petty Revenge
They’ve never had any complaints in their four years of living in that apartment. But as soon as the new downstairs neighbor moved in, the complaints came “rolling in.”
She’s tired of the malicious lies, so OP and her boyfriend thought it was only right for them to teach him a lesson.
Morning Gifts for Her Neighbor
Since OP works the night shift, she doesn’t go to bed until six in the morning—the same time OP hears her neighbor leaving for work. So, she and her boyfriend decided to incorporate a new 2:00 AM workout when she gets home from work, which consists of jumping jacks, running in place, and all kinds of fun things.
This was all for her “lovely” downstairs neighbor.
Making the Most of the Last Three Months
Later, OP informed the leasing office that because of this matter, she wouldn’t renew her lease in December of that year.
OP wrote, “The next three months for my new neighbor is going to be hell. I hope he enjoys it.”
What the Community Thinks
There’s definitely something wrong with OP’s property manager for her to question OP, who’s been living there for four years, and take the side of a new tenant.
“Your property manager needs a reality check. A good tenant for four years versus a new tenant who goes reporting crazy over nothing and non-existent things. Enjoy your 2:00 AM workouts,” a Redditor commented.
Another person replied to the previous comment, saying, “I bet the property manager has a personal connection with the downstairs loon.”
Some people suggested OP make an effort to take small legal actions for her neighbor’s and manager’s false accusations.
A Redditor wrote, “While all the petty revenge stuff sounds fun, some of it may get you in deeper with the battle. I would spend the $150 to get a lawyer to send a letter to the property manager stating that not only are the accusations impossible, but they are also unsubstantiated and bordering on defamation. Accusing you of peeing outside like a delinquent without evidence—the right wording will scare the p*** out of the property manager.”
Another person added, “The weird part of this for me is that once the property manager decides that the tenants are p****** on their own balcony, they only get a $50 fine. I would think eviction would be more appropriate.”
There were also Redditors who enjoyed OP’s petty revenge and even jokingly suggested some things she should do to disturb her downstairs neighbor.
A commenter suggested, “You know, I think I might really hate the way your furniture is arranged. You should move it at your convenience. Maybe around two?”
Another one said, “If they already think you have a dog, what about a few YouTube videos of very loud dog barks playing over and over every time you leave the house.”
Would you be able to do the same if you were OP? Do you think her neighbor deserves more than that?
