This Redditor vented her frustrations to the community after she tried to get revenge on her noisy neighbor who can’t seem to be considerate of others!
Thin Walls
OP (Original Poster) had accepted that her apartment had very thin walls and, therefore, she’d hear noises throughout the day and night. She was okay with it because she knew it would happen since she lived in an apartment.
Noisy Neighbor
Even so, there’s a limit to the kind of noise or volume she can endure. OP said her loudest neighbor was the one directly above her.
Additionally, her neighbor’s assigned parking space is right next to her unit, and he would usually sit in his car for 10 minutes playing music on full blast.
Hearing Every Single Thing
Apart from the car’s speakers, OP said she could hear many other things from her noisy neighbor’s apartment.
She shared, “I hear him vacuuming, doing laundry, and using the dishwasher in the middle of the night. But I just put in earplugs and go back to sleep.”
More Noise
For OP, the main issue was that her neighbor liked to keep all his windows open while his TV was at a high volume—at night.
OP said, “It’s so loud it sounds like if I turned on my own TV and blasted it.”
I Need My Peace and Quiet
She further added that she’s a college student in an intense program and was constantly studying. She’d already tried using earplugs to block out the sound, but it was still so loud.
Because of that, she tried asking her neighbor to turn down the TV because she was trying to study. She said he did so for the first few times, but it was never fully resolved.
Building’s Quiet Time
The issue persisted, so OP even reminded him that their building had a “quiet time” from 10 in the evening to 8 in the morning.
This seemed to agitate her neighbor because OP said, “At this point, I think he was just annoyed by me and turned his TV on even louder! I tried filing a noise complaint, but honestly, not much came out of it.”
Studying for Finals
One night, OP was studying for her finals. Sadly, she heard his “loud, dreadful TV again.”
So, she once again went up, knocked on his door, and asked him to turn it down as she needed to study. However, her neighbor still didn’t concede.
Her “Bright” Idea
OP was so stressed because of her finals, and she said she needed to get high grades. So, she got the “bright” idea to stack chairs one on top of the other, connect her lecture to her speaker, and stick the speaker right next to the ceiling.
She said it was so loud that she felt it vibrating.
Another Confrontation
Then, after 10 minutes, she heard a knock on her door; it was her neighbor upstairs! This time, he was the one who asked her to turn down the volume.
However, she said, “Sorry, your TV was so loud I couldn’t hear my lecture.” Her neighbor huffed, left her apartment, and turned his TV on even louder.

After their confirmation, OP left the building, got into her car, and parked at a quiet spot.

Marijuana Is Prohibited!
OP shared that their lease stated that marijuana is prohibited on the property; anyone proven to have some on hand would be evicted. OP knew that her neighbor was smoking weed every day.

One day, she smelled her neighbor “lighting up.” So, she called the leasing office to tell them that there was a “strong odor of what smells like marijuana” coming from upstairs.
Getting Caught!
Her neighbor usually smokes weed on the balcony where everyone could see, so she waited. Then, she saw the property manager walking toward their building, and she knew the property manager saw her neighbor smoking weed on his balcony.
OP then said the property manager knocked on her neighbor’s door to confront him. She couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but she hoped the property manager saw the jar of weed.
Getting Him Evicted!
A few days after her neighbor’s confrontation with the property manager, she heard him packing his stuff.
She said, “I didn’t want to stoop that low, but he pushed me to that point. Now I have a great upstairs neighbor that I have no problems with.”
