OP (Original Poster) is a 28-year-old woman with a 33-year-old sister-in-law. She shared that they generally get along well, except for one problem she continuously encounters with her.
She said, “If you don’t keep an eye on her, she will get into the kitchen and add seasonings to whatever is cooking. She thinks she is fixing stuff, but not all foods need turmeric in it.”
Making Tomato Sauce
The weekend this story was posted, OP received 40 pounds of tomatoes. She was planning to can the tomatoes, and it took her the whole weekend to prep them and turn them into tomato sauce.
DIY Sauce
OP shared that she typically cans the sauce plain. She doesn’t season it while cooking; instead, she flavors the sauce per can whenever she’s cooking something specific.
Coming Over
OP’s brother and his wife came over to take a bag of spare clothes for one of their kids. She left the kitchen for five minutes to get their stuff.
However, in just those five minutes, her sister-in-law could already ruin everything she was doing.
Ruined Tomato Sauce
OP had five pots of tomato sauce simmering on top of the stove. All of them were ruined!
She shared, “In the five minutes it took me to get it, she managed to get into the kitchen, add salt, pepper, turmeric, olive oil, garlic powder, and Italian herbs to all five of the pots that were simmering on the stove.”
The Audacity
OP was furious and asked her sister-in-law about what she was doing. However, she said her sister-in-law had the “audacity” to say, “This sauce needed some taste; I added it for you.”
She added that she’s already told her sister-in-law “not to touch” her cooking before.
Blinded by Anger
She was so mad that she knew nothing pleasant would go out of her mouth if she talked to her sister-in-law while she wasn’t calm. So, instead, she approached her brother.
OP wrote, “I simply walked to my brother, told him to take the clothes and his wife, and that she is no longer welcome in my house.”
Too Late for an Apology
Her sister-in-law seemed to have heard her because she followed OP, was shocked, and started apologizing. However, OP just ignored her.
She went on to tell her brother that she would be expecting another 40 pounds of tomatoes the next day. She also told him to pick up the sauce his wife “ruined” because if not, everything would be thrown away.
More Apologies
The couple left, and the next day, OP’s brother returned with 40 pounds of tomatoes. Aside from that, he had an apology letter from his wife and some “apology carrot cake,” which was OP’s favorite.
Even so, OP told her brother that she would stand by her decision.
Parents’ Involvement
OP’s parents soon got involved because they had an issue with Memorial Day celebrations.
She said, “I am the one that usually hosts, and since she is not allowed in my house, I told them to make alternate plans for Memorial Day.”
Who’s on Her Side
OP’s husband is 100% on her side and believes she did the right thing. However, OP’s parents say she’s overreacting.
