This Redditor had had enough of her “egg donor” of a mom sucking her dad dry, so she refused to give her and her half-siblings a share of her inheritance. Is she being heartless?
Leaving Her Egg Donor of a Mom
OP (Original Poster), a 27-year-old woman, and her brother, Rich, a 25-year-old man, were present when their dad, who was 45, was still alive and divorced OP’s 50-year-old biological mom after 11 years of her infidelity.
She and her mom weren’t close, and she’s someone who OP considered to be an “egg donor.”
Leaving Behind a Huge Family
Sadly, her father passed away two weeks before OP shared this story. He left OP, Rich, and other “egg donor spawns,” who are her maternal half-siblings: Jess and Tess, who are both 28-year-old women; Bishop, a 14-year-old boy; and Lynn, 12.
There’s also OP’s dad’s second wife, 33-year-old Felicity, and OP’s paternal half-sibling, Mauve, a 4-year-old girl; her dad also had Benji, his 10-year-old stepson whom Felicity had before she met OP’s dad. Aside from all that, there are also unborn twins left in Felicity’s womb.
Comforting Each Other
OP’s dad’s passing took a toll on everyone. It was “really tough,” so OP, her partner, and Rich decided to move in with Felicity for the time being.
Remembering Their Father’s Death
It was hard for Felicity to stay at home alone. OP explained that their father died when they visited a while back, and he passed away in his sleep after battling cancer and some other complications for a year or so.
OP wrote, “Felicity woke up to him cold and gone with his arm still around her, and it was just awful. Her scream, attempting to give CPR, begging him to wake up, and her refusal to leave his side during retrieval was the worst part that day.”
The Contents of Her Dad’s Will
Everyone in the family attended his dad’s funeral. Even OP’s “egg donor” and her “spawns” were there since her dad has been paying child support for them, making them “legally his.”
OP noted, “Well, there were some clauses such as that the only money would be given to the kids were if they were biologically his.”
A Family Dispute Over Money
Tensions were high, and OP’s biological mom and her family caused a commotion, especially Jess and Tess, calling OP’s father “abusive” in every way. They also called Felicity many “degrading and racially charged” names because she’s Black.
Despite all that, Felicity was surprisingly calm and agreed to do a DNA test for everyone. OP and Rich also decided to take one to settle everything.
Non-biological Kids Get Something, Too!
Eventually, they discovered that the unborn twins, OP, Mauve, and Rich, were their father’s biological children. The rest of OP’s “egg donor’s spawns” weren’t his; therefore, they weren’t entitled to his estate.
Even so, they were getting $200 each and a “valuable antique toy car.” OP wrote, “Egg donor and her family have been hounding us to share in my dad’s wealth and that it wasn’t fair for the small ones to not have money for college.”
It’s Their Fathers’ Responsibility
OP thinks she might be the a**hole for telling her biological mother to consult all her children’s fathers to pay for their college. She also angrily told her that her dad has done and still is doing enough, even beyond the grave, by having a separate account for her “crotch gobblers’” support.
She added, “The exact amount comes out every month and will do so till they turn 18.”
You Should’ve Kept Track
OP also thinks she might be wrong for constantly reminding her biological mom about her infidelity, saying, “As a town bicycle, she should have kept a log responsibly for each person that took a ride.” In this way, those men could pay for their own children rather than OP’s father taking the responsibility.
She wrote, “If they can’t go to college or do the things I did and my siblings are able to do, that’s her own fault, not mine. Not my dad’s.”
Should She Help?
All things considered, OP does know that her biological mom and her husband are experiencing financial troubles, and she does have more than enough to share.
However, she explained, “I really don’t feel like I need to be charitable morally or familial to them, but others are saying I should at least help the younger two.”
The Root Cause of Her Anger
There’s no affinity between her and her biological mom and her family since, when OP was assaulted before, she turned to her biological mother, who did not help her whatsoever.
She only laughed and told her that she should’ve used a condom or shouldn’t have been drinking at all. OP could not depend on her family at that moment in her life.
The Only Mom She Ever Had
Instead, she turned to Felicity, whom she greatly disliked and called some awful names back then. Despite that, Felicity packed her son up in the middle of the night, brought a cake, and went to her even if she was an hour and a half away.
Felicity was there when she broke down, when she had an abortion, when there was a trial, and when there were countless nights that OP had nightmares. Her biological mother and sisters weren’t there for her—only Felicity.
They Don’t Deserve Him!
As for her biological mom’s younger “spawns,” they called OP’s father a “broken man” when he tried to reach out to them for the last time when he got ill. They didn’t care for him.
OP added, “Yet they showed up to the funeral crying like they cared. That’s where my anger stems from.”
The Community’s Suggestions
People believed that OP should visit and consult a therapist regarding her situation as it would help address her anger management and other emotions.
“You’re not wrong about the money or the inheritance, but the level of rage and meanness in you needs addressing,” someone wrote.
Another person said, “Not the a**hole, but I sure hope you will spend some of that money on a therapist. This anger, however justified, isn’t good for you. It sounds like your biological mother has done more than enough damage without you chewing yourself up with rage at her behavior.”
He’s Done Enough
Redditors said that OP’s dad left her biological mom and her kids more than enough support and that if they really needed more, they should ask the fathers of the kids.
A commenter said, “Not the a**hole. Your egg donor’s children or spawn getting support from your dad’s estate is more than generous. Your egg donor’s actions have consequences that don’t involve you. You are right. She should go after the sperm donors who helped create these children and get due recourse from them.”
Not for Her to Worry About
People agreed that it’s not OP’s responsibility to care for her biological mother and her half-siblings and that she should worry about herself instead. Aside from that, her father was already kind enough to include them in his will.
A Redditor wrote, “Not the a**hole. Your inheritance is yours, and you can do what you want with it. You are under no obligation to support your siblings or your biological mom. Your father very generously created an account that will continue to pay child support for children he knew were not his own. He didn’t have to do this. Your dad was a class act.”
The same person added, “I do agree with the others here that you might benefit from therapy. I totally understand your anger at your biological mom, but holding that inside you isn’t healthy.”
What do you think? Should OP have shared her inheritance?
