OP’s (Original Poster) first job was working as an accountant in a motel with a restaurant considered one of the city’s best. She also mentioned that this happened when people didn’t use cell phones yet.
She added that the owners preferred to leave the management of the property to the staff.
Weekly Staff Meetings

She then shared that each week, they had a staff meeting led by the Head Chef, a male, and the Lead Host, a female.
New Staff Member

After a year of OP working with them, the team hired a new Catering Manager, and she and OP quickly became friends. OP said, “When workload permitted, we would get together and talk, but our work did not suffer because of our friendship.”
Trouble Is Brewing

During one of the weekly staff meetings, she was handed a copy of the week’s agenda as usual, but she didn’t read any of it. She said she just listened and participated in the meeting.
However, she found it weird that people around the table kept glancing her way.
Face-To-Face Conversations

After the meeting and when OP returned to her office, the Front Desk Manager went in with her. With a sly look on her face, she asked OP, “What do you think of the last agenda item?”

Even though the Head Chef, who led the meetings, did not discuss this verbally, OP said the damage had been done. She shared, “All the hotel’s managers had seen it in writing, and many shared it with their employees.”
OP was furious, but she and the Catering Manager decided to ignore it. Even so, her anger was already brewing.

Termination

A month later, the new management came with two of their accounting staff who had to follow OP around to get a feel of how things were done. This time, she was sure she had to leave her job.
She was asked to meet with the Personnel Manager three weeks after this.

OP said the new management team was kind enough to give her an “excellent reference letter and a month’s severance pay.”
They also asked her, “Are there any concerns you have with the way the business is running? And please, be as candid as possible. We will not reveal that it was you who shared information.”

OP saw this as the perfect opportunity to get back at the two managers who embarrassed her and almost made her lose her job. She shared, “I explained how I was worried about the repercussions that were a distinct possibility due to the extramarital affair between two upper management persons.”
She was met with silence, so she continued, “All the staff knows about it. We’ve seen the videos of them entering hotel rooms together and coming out much, much later. And the staff reports seeing them ‘in the act’ in the storage room.”
Blowback!

OP was so sure that the affair would damage the property’s reputation that she used it as ammunition.
She told the management, “I would not say anything about this if neither were married. But they both have spouses and children, and I can imagine the blowback if one or both spouses find out about this. Blowback that would most likely occur on hotel property.”

The management had OP spill the beans of the names of the people involved and who they could get proof from.
After that, they thanked her and handed her the paperwork. They took her keys and badge, and she was gone from the property.
The Fallout

Later, she heard about what happened through her friend, the Catering Manager. According to her, “the Lead Host was laid off within days” of OP leaving.
The Head Chef was then put on a one-year probation and sent to classes for “appropriate behavior in the workplace.” He was also no longer to lead any staff meetings.
