This woman learned her lesson after she made the big mistake of “warning” her colleague he was about to get fired. She was never prepared for his crazy reaction!
Past Happenings

Two years before this story was posted, OP was made aware that one of her colleagues, whom she personally knew, was about to get fired the Friday of that week.
In her post, she referred to him as Carl.
Meet Carl

Carl was a misogynist and habitually spouted chauvinistic comments in front of his female supervisor; he also regularly p***** off the “wrong people.” But surprisingly, this was not what had gotten him fired.
Sure Way to Get Fired

Apparently, Carl chatted up a woman at one of the company’s social events, and little did he know that she was “some powerful guy’s wife.”
OP shared, “Rule number one for company social events: never, ever, ever! Be too chatty with random women at these events. Stick to the people you know. You never know who she’s married to and how powerful and insecure her husband may be.”
Finding Out About It

OP’s job duties required her to work and spend a lot of time around upper management. She could overhear a conversation about Carl’s pending dismissal because she was so near the halls and office of upper management.
None of the upper management personnel seemed to be aware that she knew Carl personally, so they spoke freely about him in front of her.
Juicy Gossip

The people around OP laughed for several minutes while they were discussing Carl.
She said they talked about everything “from his mediocre work ethic, the chatting up somebody’s wife incident, his wardrobe, and the inappropriate misogynistic comment he was accused of making in front of his female supervisor.”
Listening In

Throughout everything, OP kept quiet and sat stone-faced and disinterested. She didn’t want them to figure out that she knew Carl so she could get more of the scoop.
OP said, “It must’ve worked because they kept going on and on about how mediocre he was.”
Should We Warn Him?

When OP could sneak away, she asked one of her work friends for advice. She told him that Carl was getting fired the coming Friday and asked him if they should warn Carl.
This happened on a Monday afternoon, and OP and her friend agreed that although Carl had his shortcomings, the decent thing to do as his friends was to give him a heads-up so he could start looking for a new job immediately. They would soon find out this was a big mistake!
Tuesday Lunch

The next day, Tuesday, OP and his friend invited Carl to have lunch with them outside of the company. The two broke the news to Carl when they were all done eating.
OP wrote, “We tell him that we caught wind that he’s getting fired on Friday, and there’s nothing he can do to reverse it. We also advised him to start his job search immediately and to call out sick on Friday so that they are forced to fire him over the phone versus humiliating him by having him escorted out by security on Friday, which is standard procedure.”
Promise Kept or Promise Broken?

Aside from that, the two also asked Carl to keep a low profile for the rest of the week and to make sure that he didn’t make it evident that he already knew what would happen. Carl kept this promise for only 20 minutes!
Storming Into Her Office

Within minutes of them arriving at the office, Carl immediately stormed into his female supervisor’s office and accused her of “hating men, sabotaging his career, and actively working to get him fired.”
OP mentioned they weren’t present for this part of the story, but after Carl stormed into his female supervisor’s office aggressively, she asked him to leave. When he didn’t, she screamed for help.
Panicked Reaction

Hearing her scream, several people ran up to see what was happening and forcefully removed Carl from her office. However, Carl immediately took off, running to HR.
Everything was messy and chaotic, and his supervisor had been shaken up. In a state of panic, she pulled the fire alarm because she assumed Carl was running off to get a weapon to come back and harm her with.
Normal Fire Drill?

OP was oblivious to everything, so she thought the alarm was just for a routine fire drill.
She said, “Everyone on my floor casually exited the building via the stairwells, but when we made it outside, we were greeted by several police vehicles arriving and cops literally running full speed into the building.” Then, they were all asked to go home for the day.
All the Chaos

It was only later that OP found out that Carl caused all the chaos. The next day, she found out that when the police were searching for him in the building, they found him sitting outside the HR department, waiting to file a complaint against his supervisor.
Apparently, Carl also assumed it was just a regular fire drill.
You’re Fired!

He had no idea his supervisor pulled the alarm and that it was because of him. OP said it was “because she was afraid of him becoming an active shooter.”
Carl never made it to Friday because he was fired on the spot!
Lesson Learned

This whole fiasco was one big lesson for OP. She said what she did created a dangerous situation in the workplace, especially for women, and she would never do it again.
She ended by saying, “This is why I would never tip anybody off ever again. Lesson officially learned.”
Redditors’ Thoughts

People think OP should have expected something like what had happened to come about because of what she did.
A top comment was, “Given his history, you should have seen this coming a mile away. Anyway, this is management’s fault for talking so carelessly within eardrop’s range of employees.” Another replied, “I don’t understand why OP would warn such a horrible human being about it anyway. It wasn’t their business or job to do, and the guy deserved the firing.”
Would you also warn your colleague if they were getting fired? What do you think about what OP did?
