She was shocked to hear that her sister slept with her daughter’s deadbeat dad to prove a point to his fiancé. Now, she’s pregnant again, broke, and is about to lose her home!
Two Sisters Under One Roof

OP (Original Poster), a 23-year-old woman, has a 24-year-old Irish twin, and they’ve been living together for 2 years. She’s child-free, while her sister is a single mom of a toddler.
An Official Tenant

When they first moved in together, the apartment was only in OP’s sister’s name, and she let OP live with her. Back then, OP was finishing dental assisting school and couldn’t qualify for an apartment alone.
Of course, she still paid half the rent and utilities. After graduating and getting a job, she was officially added to the lease as a roommate.
Having the Means

For someone her age, OP makes a lot of money. So when her sister struggled to pay her share of the rent and her job cut her hours significantly, OP started paying more.
She wrote, “I could easily afford all the rent, so covering another 25% is nothing. Plus, I love her and my niece.”
Sis to the Rescue

Her sister gets no help from the father of her child, so OP helps her as much as possible. The guy’s work is undocumented, so he doesn’t get his wages garnished for child support.
Aside from that, OP has also watched her sister struggle to afford daycare and food for her baby, so OP also helps with that.
Knocked Up by the Same Guy

Two days before posting this story, OP’s sister sat her down and told her she was pregnant. OP was shocked and asked who the father was, and then she started crying.
OP wrote, “I didn’t expect her to say her deadbeat baby daddy.”
Spoken For

Her sister explained that she saw a girl commenting on the guy’s posts, so she stalked her page and saw they had taken photos at the same place at the same time. There was also a post of the girl saying, “Happy birthday to my fiancé” on the guy’s birthday week.
Validating Her Claims

OP’s sister messaged the woman to let her know the guy’s a deadbeat and then got blocked. After that, her daughter’s father called, saying she’s a “crazy b****,” which led to them getting a hotel room and sleeping with each other.
OP added, “All to prove some point to his fiance that he’s not loyal and she can have him whenever she wants because she sent her proof after they slept together, but the fiancé stayed with him.”
Facing the Consequences

As OP’s sister told her that story, she was just sitting there, upset. OP then asked her if she had gone to the doctor and how far along she was.
Her sister said she did. She got a scan, and she’s nine weeks pregnant.
Get Rid of It, or Else!

Since they live in a blue state, abortion is legal there, and OP told her sister that she won’t be re-signing the lease unless she gets one.
OP wrote, “She looked at me with so much disgust and started crying harder. She called me an ‘evil b****’ and said I’m a horrible person for making her choose between her baby or having housing.”
Be Realistic

With that, OP told her that she couldn’t even afford half the rent, let alone the daycare she splits between OP, their dad, and aunt. So, she should understand the position she’s putting OP in since the responsibility falls on her.
What a Cold-Hearted Woman!

Afterward, OP’s sister told their family, and they got mad at OP, saying she was “heartless” to even ask her sibling that and that she shouldn’t “punish” her. They also asked her if she could sign for at least six months so her sister could sort things out since five weeks wouldn’t be enough.
No More!

OP refused, saying her sister is “ungrateful” for all the help she’s given, so she’s out.
She wrote, “They’re saying I’m an a**hole since when I didn’t qualify, she let me live with her even though I paid half.”
Sole Stability

In a comment, OP shared that her dad and stepmom can’t support and house her sister since they have young kids and there’s no more space. Her aunt, who said she’s “disgusting,” also can’t physically help because she lives in a different state.
OP added that she and her sister have different mothers, saying, “Her mom is a deadbeat and remarried in a different state, and my mom thinks I should have moved out a long time ago.”
People’s Opinions

The community sided with OP, saying she wasn’t forcing her sister to get an abortion but telling her she wouldn’t live with her anymore if she decided to have the kid. Aside from that, they think that if OP’s family is so concerned, they should support her sister themselves.
The top commenter said, “Not the a**hole. I hate when a family tries to spend other family member’s money. Tell your family that they can co-sign for your sister and pitch in on the rent since they are so adamant about it. You aren’t forcing your sister to get an abortion; you just aren’t going to live with her if she has another kid. The kids are not your responsibility, and you should not have to take care of them.”
The same person wrote, “Deadbeat dad’s future wife should know that if he cannot afford child support, they will get it out of her wages. When they get married, the courts take into consideration the household income so that she will be on the hook for both kids.”
Right and Wrong at the Same Time

A commenter said that although OP meant well, she delivered it inappropriately.
A Redditor commented, “Not the a**hole. You had the right intentions, although you expressed them in a way that wasn’t apt. I mean, you played the biggest card you were holding in your hand. When we do something for our loved ones, we shouldn’t hold that as a way to control them or their decisions. I can understand where you are coming from. She definitely shouldn’t have this baby, rationally speaking. But it’s not for us or for you to decide. I can understand that the responsibility will fall over you eventually. So you could have told her that she should reconsider and that you wouldn’t be able to support that second baby.”
The same person added, “But using the ‘lease’ card was like using a bazooka to kill a spider. So you might have been wrong there. You should play it positively going forward, like encouraging and even somewhat pushing your sister to get a job and make a life for herself. She can’t be dependent on you and others for all her life. She needs to sort out her life by herself. You guys are there for her to count on and to support her, but she shouldn’t take it for granted.”
What can you say about OP’s decisions in life? Do you think she was too harsh on her sister?
