A woman asked the community if she was wrong to get a disabled woman and her guide dog removed from a flight. She’s severely allergic to dogs, but Redditors think she could have acted better!
Severe Dog Allergy

OP (Original Poster) has a severe dog allergy. She mentioned that she had varying degrees of reactions whenever she was exposed to a dog.
She said, “In short, being in a closed environment with a dog is out of the question.”
Vacation With Friends

OP was going on a vacation with her friends the day this story was posted. They were going somewhere quite far, and it required them to take a plane.
Boarding Her Flight

When they were boarding, OP saw a woman boarding with a Golden Retriever with a guide dog vest. She said that she had no intention of questioning whether the dog was truly a guide dog or not, but she didn’t want to be on the same flight as it.
Small Planes, Small Spaces

Because it was a relatively short flight, the plane was smaller than other commercial aircraft. Since she couldn’t be in an enclosed space with a dog, she immediately contacted one of the flight attendants to tell her about her concerns.
In her post, OP said, “I told one of the flight attendants my concerns since I could have potentially ended up in hospital if I had to fly with this dog.”
Going Into Hysterics

Trying to solve the issue, a flight attendant reached out to the woman with the guide dog and told her about the situation. Immediately, she started going into hysterics.
She said she was visiting a sick family member and couldn’t afford to miss the flight. OP, however, doesn’t seem to believe how important the woman’s emergency was; she said, “I’m not sure how sick the family member in question was.”
A Seat in First Class!

Upon hearing about the woman’s situation, the flight attendant turned to OP to ask her if she would go on the next flight instead.
It was leaving in only two hours, and she would be offered a seat in first class for all her troubles.
Not Compromising

The offer should have quickly resolved the issue. Unfortunately, OP did not accept.
She shared, “I said that, unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to do this since I’d paid for my vacation.”
You Are Heartless!

OP said the dog couldn’t even be put in the hold since the plane was so small, but she still wouldn’t give up. So, the disabled woman told her she was “heartless” for putting her vacation first over her sick family member.
Keeping Her Ground

OP didn’t listen and instead sat on the plane with her friends. When she did this, a woman in a nearby seat told her she was the “biggest b***h she’s ever met.”
Avoiding Further Conflicts

She didn’t reply to the woman to avoid any more conflicts. Her friends didn’t say anything negative toward her about what had happened, but OP said they kept making sarcastic jokes about the whole situation.
The Community’s Two Cents

Redditors think OP could have made some adjustments to her plan.
A top comment was, “You’re the a**hole. One, both you and the woman paid for your spot on the flight, so you are no more entitled to your seat than she is to hers. Two, the airline offered you a perfectly reasonable accommodation for the two-hour delay. Three, assuming the woman is sincere, her need to be on the flight was greater than yours. Four, when you have an allergy of that severity, you should be informing the airline. It would have been so easy to be nice here and cost you almost nothing.”
You’re Selfish!

One person also pointed out how much of an emergency the disabled woman had.
“You’re the a**hole. You’d have missed a few hours of vacation, whereas that woman’s relative might not have had two extra hours to live. You are selfish and an a**hole,” said a user.
How Entitled Are You?

People also pointed out that both OP and the disabled woman had equal rights to be on the flight. They believe OP was acting entitled.
A Redditor commented, “The ownership of your allergy is on you. The woman paid for her ticket just as you did and had every right to be on the flight with her service animal, and if you had a problem with it, you needed to remove yourself from the situation—not demand that she was removed. How entitled are you?”
Do you think OP could have handled things better? Do you have any other insights?
