OP’s husband’s family has always been “very liberal” about clothes. She has always worn bikinis around them, and “no one has ever cared.”
Her mother-in-law even gets topless in front of her when her son isn’t around. So, OP was utterly taken aback when suddenly, she was asked to change her swimwear!
Family Vacations and Clothing Issues
She never expected that her mother-in-law would be the one to care for and comment on her wardrobe. But on a recent family vacation, she had an issue with OP wearing a bikini—all because she was eight months pregnant!
It’s a “Bad Look” on You!
Her mother-in-law told her it was a “bad look” on her, and if she couldn’t afford a maternity bathing suit, she’d give her money.
OP was appalled by what she said but explained that she “just liked the feel of bikinis.”
Not Taking No for an Answer
Unfortunately, her mother-in-law wouldn’t let things go. She told OP that she was making everyone “uncomfortable.”
OP wrote, “I noticed that my mother-in-law’s dad wasn’t really talking to me, and my mother-in-law’s husband wouldn’t look at me.”
A Family Vacation Flop
Later in the day, her mother-in-law accused her of “ruining” the family vacation because of how much she was “upsetting her husband.” In turn, her mother-in-law’s husband admitted he “couldn’t look” at OP and said he has a “real aversion to pregnancy.”
She shared, “He even said it was his problem to work through, not mine. He ended up going to their bedroom to eat, and my mother-in-law said I was being a d*** and literally making him sick.”
Something Against Kids
OP then explained how her mother-in-law’s husband “hated” children.
She wrote, “I can’t even put into words how much he hates children. If you are child-free, that’s cool, but he makes it his whole personality.”
What a Shameful Act!
Then, her mother-in-law told her she didn’t understand how OP could walk around “like that.”
She then said that when she was pregnant with OP’s husband, she didn’t even want to leave her room and cried whenever she saw herself in the mirror.

OP had had enough, so though it was petty, she told her mother-in-law that her tattoo was scaring her.
She wrote, “It’s a mock henna tattoo above her hip, and she was also in a bikini.” OP told her that she needed to cover up because it was causing her quite a fright!

At this, OP’s mother-in-law just rolled her eyes and stormed off. You’d think that that was the end of it, but OP would soon find out it wasn’t!

Later, OP found out that her mother-in-law had been badmouthing her to their relatives, saying she was “mean” to her husband, who has a “severe phobia.”
She added that her husband always puts his big dog in another room because it makes OP uncomfortable. So, OP said her mother-in-law “pretty much said she needs to treat her belly like his dog and hide it away.”
