This Redditor’s home security cameras kept on glitching whenever her husband was home alone. Suspicious of what was causing this, she asked her husband, but instead of remaining calm, he got defensive!
The Married Couple

OP (Original Poster), a 38-year-old woman, and her husband, who’s 43, recently got married, and they have a great relationship. They also have a “healthy s** life” and have good communication.
Safety Measures

OP has a couple of cameras around their house for security purposes. Aside from that, she also uses it to communicate with her children, who don’t have cellphones yet, and mainly to see when they get home from school.
She wrote, “I could care less about the cameras most any other time. I had these—and more—at my old house, but I’ve only set up three so far at the new house. The new house also came with a Ring doorbell camera.”
No Problems at First

OP’s husband works at home, and the cameras have worked well for the first few weeks they were in the house. The cameras showed no signs of glitches, and their Ring doorbell worked great and detected every slight movement.
The First Glitch

The first glitch OP noticed happened the first week that her husband was alone in the house and the first day their kids went to school. By the time their kids came home through the front door, there was no Ring notification, and the timeline glitched as if the shots were deleted.
OP noted, “He is the main Ring account holder, I’m shared. I can’t delete anything.”
Finding Out What’s Wrong

So, that evening, OP mentioned the camera glitch to her husband, and he got defensive, so she initially dropped the issue. According to OP, she wouldn’t have married her husband if she didn’t trust him and was only curious about what happened.
They discussed it again later, and she explained that she didn’t think and wasn’t accusing him of doing something “malicious” but merely pointing out that something definitely happened. Soon after, they agreed to move past it.
Glitches When He’s Alone

OP decided to note when she noticed the “glitches,” as it happened a couple more times. To her, it was weird that they always happened whenever her husband was at home—all alone!
She would occasionally ask their kids what her husband was doing whenever they got home from school. They told her that he would be playing video games or in a work meeting most of the time.
Just Checking In

The day this story was posted, OP went to check the garage camera at around two in the afternoon to see if her husband had left the garage open. Her husband frequently does this, and they end up with excessively high power bills, so she always reminds him to shut the door.
He Snapped!

When she checked the garage camera, she got the “Live View Failed” error, and it’s the same with the camera in front of the garage. So, she screen-captured them, sent them to her husband, and asked if he knew why they weren’t working.
OP wrote, “He loses his s***. Starts saying I’m accusing him of hiding things.”
She’s Certainly Suspicious of Him

OP clarified that she doesn’t think her husband is cheating because they have a “healthy s** life,” and they usually communicate. But in this situation, she just doesn’t understand.
She says the cameras work great when her husband isn’t home alone. She added, “He has access to the cameras, just as I have access to the Ring.”
Why Would He Act Like That?

If her husband is not messing with the cameras and isn’t hiding anything, why was he so defensive?
OP didn’t ask him what he was doing, but she did insinuate that he had something to do with the cameras glitching.
Her Husband’s Side

In a comment, OP’s husband explained his side and said that his wife didn’t simply ask him what was happening, leading him to “blow up.” Instead, when she sent him the screenshots and asked about them, he responded with an “I don’t know” simply because he had no clue!
She, however, responded with, “I’d appreciate it if you’d quit f****** with them, to begin with.” It was only when his wife said this that he got defensive.
Like She Wanted Him to Be Wrong

Apparently, OP did not give any advice or instructions on what her husband could check to fix the cameras and just kept pushing that the glitches were all his doing, pushing him over the edge. OP’s husband doesn’t have any problem with cameras in the house and completely understands why having them makes her feel better.
He said, “She does not monitor me all day or harass me via the camera—yes, that has been an issue for me with other people—and I understand why having them makes her feel better about things.” OP’s husband added, “I love my wife very much, and to have these accusations thrown at me with absolutely no way of defending myself hurts deeply.”
Admitting Her Faults

After careful consideration, OP admitted that she was a little bit of a jerk in this situation. OP mentioned that, overall, she trusts that her husband isn’t doing anything to affect the cameras, and neither does she think that he’s having anybody over at their house.
She said, “I’m not going to set up a nanny cam or any other camera in the house because I do not feel the need to monitor his every movement.” OP also added that if her husband were, in any way, uncomfortable with the cameras, she’d take them down immediately.
The Community’s Thoughts

The people of Reddit have mixed opinions on OP’s situation. Some of them think that the husband is suspicious, while some consider the possibility that it may have been a technical problem.
A Redditor said, “I find this all a little suspicious, but I feel compelled to say: We have a Ring doorbell that started glitching like that. I tried lots of things and finally, for that and some other reasons, decided to update our router. That completely fixed all our Ring issues. If you have an old router, maybe get a new one. Good luck with whatever happens. Not the a**hole.”
“If he felt like he didn’t want them on when he was home, he could just say so. It’s a reasonable request. Although it sounds like you just have the doorbell and garage. That makes less sense. I wouldn’t want a camera in my living room or whatever, but a garage and doorbell; who cares? And who knows? Maybe he’s using too much bandwidth or something. It’s not necessarily intentional. I can understand why he might get a bit defensive, but I think he’s overreacting,” another commenter wrote.
Should She Spy on Him?

Some Redditos suggested unethical solutions, such as having OP set up a secret camera in their home to spy on her husband.
One wrote, “I’d be adding a camera or two that only I had access to just to see what’s going on.”
Contrary to those kinds of suggestions, someone said, “Everyone advocating for a secret camera will die alone.”
What do you think? Was OP wrong, or was her husband acting downright suspicious?
