Losing a Part of Her
OP (Original Poster) is a 16-year-old who lost her left leg in an accident. Thankfully, her family had the means to get her a prosthetic leg.
Plus, her family is “well off,” so they were able to get a prosthetic leg that was “pretty advanced.”
As Normal as Could Be
Her prosthetic leg could even pass off as a normal leg whenever she wore pants. OP usually does this as she’s “really self-conscious” about showing her prosthetic.
Her Daily Activities
Now, OP could do almost everything a person with two legs can. She can walk, run, and go up the stairs without issues.
The only problem she has is keeping her balance when there are sudden changes in movement, which usually happens when she’s on trains and buses. This is precisely where OP’s story took place.
She Had No Choice!
One day, she was riding the train. When she entered the carriage, she noticed it was busy and had no other seats available aside from the priority seats.
So, she went to sit down on one of the seats reserved for the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women.
A Stranger’s Demands
Everything was going smoothly until a couple of stops later, a woman came in. She approached OP and told her that she needed to move.
The Battle of Needs
The woman said that OP “shouldn’t be” sitting there, and she needed the seat, so OP should move. OP, however, just apologized and said that she needed the seat as well.
The Woman’s Ignorance
Then, the woman “got all argumentative,” telling OP she should get up because the seat was meant for the elderly. She then accused OP of being a “lazy child” who is more than capable of standing.
I Need Backup!
OP tried keeping her cool, saying she was sorry, but she really needed the seat for herself. Frustrated, the woman got the train conductor.
Another Ignorant Individual
The train conductor simply believed the woman’s claims and asked OP to get up as well. At this point, OP was just done being treated this way.
Take That!
Tired of everyone’s accusations, she rolled up her pants and showed them her prosthetic leg. Then, she once again told both the woman and the train conductor that she wasn’t going to leave.
Too Embarrassed to Stay
The woman got very “red-faced.” She mumbled something OP couldn’t understand, then got off at the next station.
A Deliberate Move
OP didn’t plan to embarrass the woman that way. Still, she was also not open to showing everyone her prosthetic leg every time, and that’s why she held off till the last moment.
She wrote, “Am I the a**hole? I could have said I have a prosthetic right away, but it’s a really touchy subject for me, and it makes me feel very self-conscious. That’s why I always wear long trousers so nobody can see or has to know.”
