OP (Original Poster) was furious at the passengers who were inconsiderate of a mother and her son trying to find seats on a packed train. The online community agreed with him and shunned the passengers!
Packed Train

OP is on a packed train going from Milton Keynes to London. He said he was looking at two people sitting on the aisle and blocking the window seats with their bags.
There Are Seats Here!

At first, he didn’t pay any mind to what they were doing. However, he then saw a mother and her son looking for seats.
OP said he grabbed them and told them there were available seats near him; they just had to ask the people to move their bags.
Do You Mind?

When they got near the other two passengers, OP asked them if they minded moving their stuff so that the mother and son could sit together.
Start of the Problem

After he asked, the two passengers stood up and asked him where they should move. OP said he was tired at this point.
He was possibly already starting to get frustrated, too, so he bluntly replied, “I don’t care; just allow these guys to sit down.”
Starting an Argument

Because of what he said, one of the passengers started arguing with OP. The person said, “I’m sitting by my colleague.”
However, OP noted that the person’s colleague was on the phone the whole time.
More Drama

The passenger still hadn’t stopped and told OP, “If someone wants to sit here, they could just ask.”
At this point, the mother and son had already walked off to avoid all the drama unfolding.
Use Your Common Sense and Be Considerate

OP admitted that he could have handled things better but was adamant that the British public needed to learn to be kinder toward others.
He said, “The British public is really so pathetic they can’t use their common sense, have a bit of consideration for others, and let people sit in the available seats.”
Entitled People

OP also shared that he’d spent the last year living in Newcastle as a Southerner, so to him, “It’s so glaringly obvious how some entitled some people are down here.”
Redditors’ Thoughts

People sided with OP and said that he was right for trying to help the mother and son find seats.
One said, “It really annoys me; it’s not hard to put your bag on the floor.” OP replied to this comment and said, “It’s a good train; there’s storage above every single seat.”
Well Done!

The community also commended OP for his efforts. It might have caused some drama on the train, but doing the right thing would always be worth it.
“Well done! Always challenge selfish a**holes and the reply to why is because you are a horrible selfish human if you don’t. Are you a horrible selfish human? Most people would just shut up and move with the embarrassment.”
Sadly, Being Polite Doesn’t Always Work

One noted that a simple, “Hey, can you move your bag, please,” would work every time.
However, one shared a sarcastic remark showing how being polite doesn’t always work. This Redditor said, “Sorry, this is too easy; it’s better to instead cause a scene with some random strangers who likely don’t want to be involved. Better ignore the people that are employed to deal with issues on the trains as well.”
Go for the Challenge!

People also exclaim that people like the two passengers OP encountered should constantly be challenged.
One said, “Challenge them every time.” Then another replied, “Yes, ditto on buses too. I know there’s no overhead storage on buses, but just hold your bags on your knees. You have only paid for one seat.”
Funny but Impactful Anecdote

A Redditor shared her personal experience. Albeit she approached it in a funny way, there’s no doubting the impact it holds.
She said, “I had to stand on a train from Liverpool to Blackburn, and a couple filled the four seats around a table with bags. They weren’t for moving, even after spotting my walking stick, so I put my bag on the floor and farted with all my might on their table. I nearly weed myself with the effort, but it was worth it.”
