Young Todd
OP (Original Poster) had a younger brother, Todd, who had a complicated birth and had to stay in the ICU for a month. Because of this, their parents have always doted on him and never denied him anything, even if it were to “the detriment of him and his sister, Abby.”
He Thrives Under the Spotlight
Todd is spoiled, and OP said he “drinks in on the attention.”
He said that Todd has, on more than one occasion, made himself the “center of attention.” What made things worse was he did this during OP’s, his sister’s, or one of his cousin’s special events.
A Strained Relationship
OP had admitted that this caused a strain in their relationship as siblings; it’s as if he and Abby were on the same side while Todd and their parents were on the other.
For example, when Todd and Lucy, his girlfriend, found out they were pregnant, they announced the pregnancy during the baby shower their mom held for Abby!
Let’s Just Elope
So, when OP proposed to the love of his life, Michelle, he told her that he just wanted to elope.
However, Michelle wanted her family to be present on her big day. So, OP invited his family, too, “out of obligation.”
Best Man’s Snooping Skills
One night, OP’s best man, Jim, found a receipt from a jewelry store that had slipped out of Todd’s pocket. Knowing Todd’s tendencies, Jim immediately confronted him, eventually leading to an argument.
Change of Plans
Todd was supposed to be one of OP’s groomsmen. But after Jim told him what had happened, he told Todd he would no longer be part of the entourage because he knew about his plans to propose during the wedding.
He said, “Todd cried to our parents, which led to a blowout.”
In Their Eyes
Unfortunately, for OP’s parents, Todd could do no wrong. They said that since Todd never admitted that he would propose during the wedding, OP was “unfairly” judging his brother.
OP wrote, “I refused and brought up Todd’s past behavior. My parents couldn’t refute this and got Todd to agree not to try anything at my wedding.”
I’m Not Convinced
Even if OP let Todd attend his wedding, it wasn’t enough to convince him to allow him to be part of the entourage. So, he warned Todd that if, as a guest, he tried to do anything, he’d “make him regret it.”
He Still Did Something
Sadly, OP’s threat was not enough for Todd to back down. During the bride’s father-daughter dance, Todd walked over to Lucy and proposed to her!
OP noted that he did it in a way that everyone would notice.
That’s Enough!
OP had had enough, and he prepared for this day. He explained that he and Jim had hired a woman to pretend to be “Todd’s side piece.”
They made her corner Todd and Lucy and claim she was pregnant with his baby. Of course, Todd denied this; however, he was not prepared for what OP had in store for him!
He Was Thorough
OP shared that he had already given the woman Todd’s number. So, when she called Todd to prove their relationship, everyone was surprised that his phone really started to ring.
He mentioned that he also “messed with Todd’s phone to incriminate him,” and the whole thing didn’t look good for Todd. OP wrote, “Lucy threw the ring back at Todd and left in tears.”
The Fallout
When Todd looked at OP and saw the smile on his face, he immediately knew his brother had set him up. But the thing is, he couldn’t prove anything!
He wrote, “I didn’t respond to a single call or text from him or my parents until after the honeymoon. Lucy has thrown Todd’s stuff out and has been denying access to their kid.”
Make Things Right!
When he returned from his honeymoon, Tod demanded he clear his name. However, OP just texted him, saying he “had no idea what he was talking about.”
OP also sent him a bill for the wedding and said he was demanding reimbursement for half of the wedding costs; after all, he ruined their day. He said, “Michelle knew the whole time what I was planning and gave me the green light after Todd ruined her moment with her dad, so I felt pretty good, but now even Abby thinks I went too far.”
