An Unexpected Visit
OP had been married to her husband for nine months when this story was posted. She shared that they lived in a different town from his parents.

Her Mother-In-Law
For OP, her mother-in-law wasn’t all that bad. Sadly, she wasn’t the best either.
She wrote, “She is okay-ish but has no respect for her son’s privacy and, by extension, mine.”
More Requests
With her unexpected visit, OP’s mother-in-law declared she was staying the night. That was fine with OP, but it wasn’t her mother-in-law’s last request.
When it was time to go to bed, she suddenly requested that OP and her husband let her sleep in their bedroom—the master bedroom. She also wanted to lock their bedroom door because “she can’t feel comfortable enough to sleep without locking the door.”
I Don’t Think So
For OP, her mother-in-law’s request was “bizarre,” so she “politely declined” her request. She then suggested alternatives, like the guest bedroom, couch, or air mattress.
OP’s mother-in-law didn’t like any of the options she gave. Instead, she gave OP those options!
Mommy’s Boy
OP’s husband agreed with his mom, but OP adamantly refused. Because of this, an argument between her and her mother-in-law ensued.
OP wrote, “During the argument, I pointed out how I didn’t want to be kept out of my room and away from my stuff, but she lashed out at my husband saying, ‘Don’t you just stand there! Say something!’”
Coaxing Her
Instead of standing by his wife, OP’s husband told her to let his mom have the room for one night. On the flip side, OP reiterated that what she had mentioned before were the only options she had for her mother-in-law.
She said that if she didn’t approve of any of those options, then OP could book her a room in a hotel.
Are You Kicking Me Out?
Her mother-in-law was immediately offended and accused OP of kicking her out. She started crying, and this made OP’s husband upset.
Eventually, OP’s mother-in-law left at midnight, and her husband blew up. He told OP she had “disrespected” his mom, who was a “guest” at their house.
