With her unexpected visit, OP’s mother-in-law declared she was staying the night. That was fine with OP, but it wasn’t her mother-in-law’s last request.
When it was time to go to bed, she suddenly requested that OP and her husband let her sleep in their bedroom—the master bedroom. She also wanted to lock their bedroom door because “she can’t feel comfortable enough to sleep without locking the door.”
I Don’t Think So
For OP, her mother-in-law’s request was “bizarre,” so she “politely declined” her request. She then suggested alternatives, like the guest bedroom, couch, or air mattress.
