She Threw Away the Food She Cooked for Her Fiancé After He Bought Something Else and Let Hers Go Rancid. She’s So Upset She Declared She’ll “Never Cook for Him Again!”

A young woman cooks every meal for her fiancé: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She noticed he wouldn’t eat his lunch and would eat out, so she threw away the food she had cooked for him!

OP (Original Poster) cooked for her fiancé all the time. She made every meal, whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

While she would leave and go to work, her fiancé worked from home and didn’t have to leave. She would still cook for them and leave his food in the fridge while she took hers to work.

Due to her fiancé bulking and working out, she always made healthy and high-protein meals. She would have preferred a lower-calorie approach, but she understood he needed calories to build more muscle.

However, OP started to have a problem with their arrangement. She felt like her fiancé didn’t value her contribution or prioritize her even though she always cooked meals for him.

Unrewarded Effort

To explain why she felt that way, OP said she didn’t just throw together basic meals, which she would be okay with doing. Instead, she took the time to cook and prepare “full meals that he could enjoy.”

Strange Decisions

OP noticed that he wasn’t eating the food she made him for lunch but was “going out” to get food that had more calories. He told her he would also eat her lunches, which he loves, and claims they are his favorite, but they make him “too full.”

Not only would OP’s fiancé not tell her when he planned to eat out, but he would leave the trash from eating out on the dining room table. She would come home from work and see it sitting there instead of the food she had made for him.

Just Tell the Truth

OP told her fiancé how his behavior made her feel, but he insisted he ate her food and bought more. She noticed he would eat the food she made for him, but not when she made it, and he would wait until it was about to “go bad” before consuming it.

Over and Over

The cycle of her food not being eaten got to OP, and she had had enough. She went and threw out the food that she had cooked but that he hadn’t eaten.

Repeated Insistence

He told OP that he would eat the food, but she was so upset she threw it in the trash can before him. He had waited four days, and OP didn’t think the food was good enough to consume anymore.

No More Hurt Feelings

To avoid hurting her feelings, OP told her fiancé she wouldn’t cook for him. It was too much of a waste of time and effort, and he didn’t appreciate it so he could eat out.

She wrote, “I told him to avoid my hurt feelings and so that I don’t need to waste my energy any longer, that I was never going to cook for him again. He can eat out. I don’t care anymore.”

No One Is Happy

OP said that her fiancé was upset about the whole thing after what she had done. She had been upset about this, too, though, so she had thrown the food out to show that she meant business.

What Redditors Have to Say

Redditors had mixed options, but many were on OP’s side.

The highest-rated comment was, “Why are you wasting your time and food making this grown adult’s lunch? Especially if the boyfriend is not even eating it. Stop. If he’s hungry, he can make something to eat or get something else.”

Others pointed out that throwing away the food was unnecessary, saying, “Everyone sucks here. You—only for wasting food, though. If he’s expecting you to cook for him three meals a day and leave his trash on the dining table, I’m guessing you do even more for him and the household even though you commute and he doesn’t. Try to stand up for yourself a bit better. Your ‘I sincerely mean it this time’ isn’t a great sign.”

No Winners, Only Losers

Many Redditors noted that OP seemed to be doing more than she had to and wanted some recognition.

One such comment was, “Everyone sucks here. Instead of getting mad about it, you could have just stopped making lunch when it became apparent that your fiancé would not eat it later. But you continued to make it and then threw a tantrum when you finally got fed up with him not eating it. On the other hand, he should have just told you he’d get his own lunch. But he has the right to decide to eat something else for lunch. It shouldn’t be this complicated.”

What do you think about OP’s handling of the situation? Would you do anything differently if you were in OP’s place?
