This user was excited to get a job offer with a 40% salary increase. However, little did she know that the company would screw her over!
Two-Step Interview Process

OP (Original Poster) secured a chance of getting into a new company. She went through two interviews in the hiring process and was sent a job offer 30 minutes after completing the second interview.
A Salary Jump

She was utterly “ecstatic,” as the new company offered her a 40% pay increase from her current job. It required no contemplation, so she immediately accepted the offer.
Going Through the Necessary Process

OP gave her two-week notice to her current employer and went through the standard procedure whenever one’s leaving a company.
Starting a New Chapter

While that was happening, OP was also starting to settle herself in her new company.
She wrote, “I completed the onboarding HR sent me and signed everything last week.”
Getting Blindsided

However, to her surprise, two days before this story was posted, OP received an email saying her new company would not be moving forward with her offer.
This was exactly just a week after OP signed her offer letter!
Internal Changes

The email stated that there were some “internal changes” in the company, which made them unable to keep OP’s position open. They then ended with the standard, “We will keep your resume on file.”
At a Loss

OP was understandably at a loss. After all, she had just given her two-week notice at her previous company.
She immediately went to her boss and “begged” them to keep her. However, her boss told her that “HR could do nothing about it.”
Left in the Lurch

OP is absolutely furious at what happened.
She wrote, “So here I am, without a f****** stable job because this company screwed me over.”
Overflowing With Negative Reviews

So, OP decided to teach the company that screwed her over a lesson. She went to Glassdoor and left with a sparkling negative review about her experience and how the company left her “jobless.”
A Tarnished Reputation

Then, the morning OP posted this story, she received an email from the company asking her to take down the negative review. They told her the review “hurts their reputation.”
You Had It Coming

However, OP wouldn’t budge, nor did she feel bad. The company deserved what they had coming since they left her “without a f****** job.”
Name and Shame

In an edit, OP said that while she wanted to, she couldn’t name the company on the thread. She fears she might be sued for “defamation” or whatnot, even though she has proof of everything.
She wrote, “I am just trying to be cautious and hope this doesn’t damage my future career.”
What the Law Says

OP also reached out to some employment lawyers that could take a look at her case. Unfortunately, most of them told her she didn’t have a claim against the company, even with everything she had on them.
She wrote, “A good handful of them told me I did not have a case despite the evidence I gave them. I’m waiting to hear back from one more as this lawyer told me they will take a look at it but to not get my hopes up as promissory estoppel is up there with difficult cases to win.”
Moving on With Her Life

Though this was a big stoplight in OP’s career, she won’t let it hinder her success. She’s currently job hunting to see where life will take her.
She wrote, “Fingers crossed! I will still continue job hunting in the meantime, along with finding more employment lawyers that will take my case.”
What Redditors Think

Redditors found it hilarious that the company wanted OP to take down the negative review because it was hurting their reputation. After all, that was 100% the point!
One said, “‘It hurts our reputation.’ That is the f****** point, mate.”
Another commented, “The point is to reveal their true reputation. If a truthful accounting of that hurts them, that’s their own fault.”
Obvious Red Flags

Others noted that employees like OP should watch out for red flags that companies have. What happened to OP is a great example, too!
“Disgusting. No empathy for the person that they just screwed over and lost her job because of their screwups. Huge red flag,” wrote one user.
Another person wrote, “The review accurately reflects their practices. It’s their practices that hurt their reputation.”
Change Your Ways

Some Redditors zoomed in on how appalling the company behaved and how they expected to get out of things unscathed.
One Redditor said, “If you don’t want a reputation as a company that f**** people over, maybe try not f****** people over.”
Another person pointed out, “I mean, that’s literally what Glassdoor is for, so we can let other workers know our experiences with s***** employers. You did the best thing you could; leave it up.”
What would you do if you were in the same position as OP? Do you think she has a case against the company?
