A Karen Made Fun of Him in Public for Being Colorblind and Called Him “Retarded” While He’s Just Doing His Job. So, He Had to Teach Her a Lesson

This Redditor doesn’t deserve to be treated any less like a human being just because he’s colorblind. So, he taught an entitled and insensitive woman a wonderful lesson she’ll never forget!

A Young Teen

When OP (Original Poster) was 17, he worked as a grocery store employee. One day, the person next in line was a woman in her mid-40s with a child in tow.

As it was the middle of December, there were all sorts of promotions for kids, and behind OP were some toys people could pick up at the last minute.

OP wrote, “Her kid points at the toy dragon behind and says she wants the green one.”

Getting Nervous

At this, OP gulped. He’s colorblind, and it was hard for him to figure out which toy the kid wanted because they were different colors but in the same shape.

The mom then asked OP to hand her the toy her child wanted. OP tried his best to pick the correct one, but he reached for the red toy.

A Helpful Man and an Entitled Woman

The only reason OP found out it was red was because the “nice man” behind him pointed it out before the woman could. However, the mother started laughing and said, “What? Are you a colorblind mutt or something?”

At this, OP could only agree and try to move the conversation forward. He asked, “Can you tell me which shelf has the green dragon for your daughter?”

However, the woman wouldn’t let it go. OP wrote, “The b**** starts laughing like a hyena. And as she’s wheezing, she pulls out her phone and says, ‘What color is my phone case, you retard?’”

Never-Ending Insults

OP’s humiliated, and he just wants it to end. However, the woman continued and asked, in a voice you would see someone with a dog using, “Do you want a treat, colorblind dog?”

Let’s Move Forward

He ignored it and asked the woman if she wanted to start scanning the items she was checking out. She did, and the total started increasing, reaching around $500.

The woman looked at her phone, then at her daughter, and said, “It’s a good thing Mommy saves coupons.”

Extreme Couponing

The woman then started to pull out a total of 25 coupons. OP said that it would have brought down the price to around $200 overall.

Time for Payback

However, as payback, while the woman wasn’t looking, OP scanned one of the coupons and pretended to scan the others.

Then, after a few “attempts of trying” to make the coupons work, she told the woman that only a few coupons were usable at that specific time.

Making up Excuses

He started “making up some fake bulls***” about how the other coupons were possibly invalid.

He said there might be a lack of coupon production, and her coupons had “expired.”

In the End, I Won!

At the end of everything, OP won her altercation with the insensitive and entitled woman.

He wrote, “It’s safe to say Christmas dinner might’ve been canceled that year. Also, if that b**** is reading this, the color of the phone case was red.”

Redditors’ Opinions on the Matter

For users, the woman’s actions were simply horrific!

This person said, “I’m failing to see the correlation between being colorblind and ‘retarded.’ That in itself would have had me asking her to simply leave the store, as her patronage was not welcome.”

Sad Truth

However, some Redditors sadly noted that OP’s manager would have probably sided with the customer just because of the thinking that “customers are always right.”

One Redditor commented, “I’m sure the POS manager would side with the customer. Even though your recommended action is legally, morally, ethically justified.” Another said, “From what I hear of people around me or see happening around me, people ‘in charge,’ who aren’t considerate of others are, unfortunately, still the majority.”

Way Over the Line

People are mad at the entitled woman for treating colorblindness as something that makes a person seem like an animal—in her words, a dog.

This man wrote, “My son is profoundly colorblind. He is also a nano physicist engineering semiconductors for rocketry. So the R-word? No.” Another said, “I think the word ‘retard’ should be reserved for people like her, not people with actual disabilities. The word sounds way too humorous for them to deserve it, and they don’t get enough slack from the public or the system to put up with that bulls***.”

What do you think of the woman OP encountered? Did she deserve OP’s revenge?

Poetry, philosophy, history, and movies are all topics I love writing about! However, my true passion is in traveling, photography, and finding common ground to which everyone from different cultures can relate.

With the many places I’ve been to, I found that love, inspiration, and happiness are some things that bring people together. No matter how different we are on the outside, I’m a true believer that our emotions don’t lie; if you dig deep into our psyche, we’re all the same inside.

This belief was further amplified when I joined Quote Ambition. Through the quotes I’ve read, collected, organized, and written about, I found that humans are resilient, creative, and compassionate.

We take from each others’ hearts and courage, and it’s through our individual experiences that we learn how to rise above our challenges and pain. In so many ways, Quote Ambition is a platform that allows people from all over the world to gain the inspiration they need anytime, anywhere!
