A Woman Was Fired From Her New Job After Two Days, Just Because She Was Two Minutes Late. Her Boss Furiously Said, “You Can’t Be Late in Your First Week!”

This woman was freaking out and rushing to work, knowing she’d be a little late. She thought two minutes was just fine, but upon entry to the office, she was proven wrong!

A Two-Day Job

OP (Original Poster) just started a new job on Wednesday, and it was Friday when she posted her video on TikTok. She liked the job, and it was going really well.

However, perhaps two days at a new job is too early to make any judgments.

Some Distance

OP’s work is in the suburbs and is 20 minutes away from her home. So, she’d been leaving early and timing herself to ensure she wasn’t late.

Usually, OP is really punctual and doesn’t arrive late, especially at a new job. She said, “I’m a good employee.”

An Essential Item

However, the day she shared her story on TikTok, things were going differently than planned. She said she forgot her phone then, so she had to return to her house and get it.

She needed it for GPS since the office was far away, and she didn’t know how to get there.

Minutes Too Late

OP was already freaking out while looking at the clock because she was supposed to be at work at 8:30 AM. Unfortunately, she got to her desk at 8:32 AM.

An Innocent Mistake

It was just two minutes, so she believed everything was fine. However, the office is an open floor, and her boss saw her walk in—all two minutes late.

He looked at her and told her she couldn’t be late in her first week, followed by, “You’re fired.”

Not What She Thought It Was

Back then, OP thought her boss was joking, saying the company has a “super chill” and “lax” environment. For her, it would make someone feel he would just kid around people.

But contrary to what OP expected, her boss really wasn’t joking.

She said, “I’m angry, shocked, and hurt, especially just because that’s not who I am. And I’m really trying not to put it on me, you know?”

Completely Clueless

OP knows she should have been there at 8:30 AM, but there wasn’t even a warning. There was simply nothing that could have helped ready herself for this situation.

No Signs, No Caution

No one warned her and said it would be extremely strict during her first week at work. If they would have just said something about it, everything that happened could have been prevented.

She added, “And I was already bugging out that I was two minutes late.”

To Cheer Her Up

At the end of her video, OP asked for people’s words of encouragement. Losing a job is hard in itself, and it’s especially so when you liked it and lost it in all but two days!

OP said, “If anyone has any words of encouragement, I’m really struggling right now.”

Redditors’ Opinions on the Matter

OP being fired could be a blessing in disguise, as said by some TikTokers with working experience.

A TikToker wrote, “No, you don’t want to work there. I was two hours late on my second day because of an accident. I panicked, and my boss said not to worry. I’ve been there now for 10 years.”

Another user said, “Take it as a sign. I worked 16 years in a toxic place like this. You’re better than them.”

Keep That in Mind

Some TikTokers said it doesn’t matter what the reason may be. What’s important is that OP doesn’t come in late, especially if she’s just starting out.

Someone said, “Your first week, and you were late already? You need to arrive early, especially at the beginning of a new job.”

“Life lesson: be on time when you want a job. No matter how good you are, first impressions are everything,” someone else wrote.

Different Perspectives

Employers even shared what they think of their employees being late and said they don’t condone it.

One commenter wrote, “Late is late. My employees have a lot of freedom once they’re at work. But I won’t tolerate being late.”

Another person said, “I have employees that were 2 minutes late, then 5, then 15, then 20 now. Consistently. I honestly wish I had this policy at this point.”

Was being two minutes late enough for OP to get fired? Was that such a horrible mistake?
