Strapped for a Few Hours
A couple of days before this story was posted, OP was flying from the United Kingdom to Central Europe. Since it wasn’t a long-haul flight, there was a big chance she wouldn’t encounter any problems.
Spoke Too Soon
However, it turned out that an entitled dad was seated a few rows ahead of OP. He was in an aisle seat with his two “toddler-aged” kids.
OP guesses the kids were between 18 months to 2 years old, and they were sitting in the middle and window seats.
A Disturbance
OP noted that the kids were a “little boisterous.” They would stand up on the seats and be a bit loud.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
However, since it was a relatively short flight, OP decided to ignore them. She put on her headphones, relaxed, and thought, “Whatever.”
Preparing for Landing
A couple of hours passed, and it was time for them to land. Everyone in the cabin was preparing, as they would be on the ground in 5 to 10 minutes.
Rising Entitlement
During this time, one of the flight attendants noticed that one of the toddlers was still standing in his seat. She immediately approached the entitled dad to ask him to sit his child down and fasten his seatbelt.
Whining Parent
However, the man just refused. He said he’s tired, but his son just doesn’t want to sit.
Going Over the SOPs
So, the flight attendant started giving the entitled dad a full rundown of their SOPs.

OP could see the flight attendant getting more and more frustrated. Then, suddenly, the entitled dad asked if they could “fly around for a bit longer” so he could settle his son down.

However, the flight attendant adamantly refused, said they were landing now, and ensured the dad understood she meant business.

The entitled dad tried a couple more times to convince the flight attendant to give him another 30 minutes before he realized that nothing he wanted to happen would happen.
So, he finally started getting his now-screaming son fastened in his seat.
Clutch Timing
Not even five minutes later, their plane landed and touched down on the ground.
OP couldn’t believe he would want to delay the plane’s landing just so he could “avoid doing some actual parenting!”

“Not to mention they don’t fly with planes completely full of fuel every time. Some airlines fly with the bare minimum required of enough to get to destination plus 45-minute reserve, so just flying around for an extra 30 minutes could turn into an emergency situation,” said one Redditor.
Another wrote, “People forget these laws and rules are created by the FAA. The ‘F’ stands for Federal. They are non-negotiable—mostly—and in place for those parts of the flight: take-off, landing, and turbulence, where there is a higher risk of an emergency situation to occur and time is of the essence.”
