An Entitled Woman Demanded He Give up His First-Class Seat Because She’s “More Important!” So The Pilot Stepped In, Tricked Her, and Kicked Her Out

This Redditor couldn’t believe how entitled some people could be! So, he turned to Reddit to share some of his experiences onboard a flight.

An Airline Pilot

OP (Original Poster) is an airline pilot who must commute to work. He shared that he lived in Atlanta then but was domiciled in Houston and had to commute by plane.

He wrote, “Normally, you could get a jump seat in the cockpit, but on this auspicious day, that was already taken.”

His Other Option

He noted that “pass riding wasn’t an option” because there were no seats in coach and only one in First Class.

He said, “Pass riders can be bumped for fare-paying passengers. And I needed to get to work, so I plunked down my credit card and bought the last seat in First Class.”

Settled In

OP paid out-of-pocket for his seats in First Class. So, when he boarded and was in his seat, he didn’t expect anything to happen.

Meeting an Entitled Woman

However, while he was waiting for pushback, an entitled woman approached him.

She suddenly said, “You are sitting in my seat. You’ll need to move right now.”

This Is My Seat!

OP, however, was sure he was in the right seat. Even so, he indulged the woman and first checked his boarding pass.

When he confirmed he was in the right seat, he told her, “Nope. This is my seat. Not going to happen. Sorry.”

You’re Just an Employee

At this, the woman got further agitated. The woman accused OP of being an employee who was sitting in her seat and told him again that he had to move.

OP wouldn’t budge and asked her for her boarding pass, saying that there was clearly a mistake.

The woman was defensive and told OP he wouldn’t see her boarding pass. She said she already showed it to the people in charge when boarding and claimed she was “upgraded to First Class.”

OP knew there was something fishy, so he didn’t back down. Instead, he told her, “You’ll need to resolve this with the flight crew. I’m a passenger.”

Never-Ending Conflict

OP noted that the woman “stomped off, resembling an irritated Dolores Umbridge,” then returned with a flight attendant. The flight attendant greeted OP and asked him for his boarding pass, and again, OP complied.

Then, the flight attendant told the woman, “Ma’am, that’s his seat. He paid for it.” However, the woman wouldn’t back down either and told her, “Well then, throw him off, dear. I’ve upgraded to First Class, and that is now my seat.”

I Should Be in First Class!

The flight attendant then reiterated that she had to see the boarding pass. But again, the woman got defensive and said, “You will not! I showed it when I boarded. I’ve upgraded to First Class.”

Already doubtful, the flight attendant asked her how she had been upgraded to First Class, and the woman said, “I upgraded to First Class. I’m more important than an employee. Now get him out of my seat.”

Getting the Pilot Involved

OP noted that during all this, someone called the pilot to inform him of what was happening. Because of this, he left the flight deck to deal with the problem.

The pilot said, “Ma’am, I’m Captain Wallaby. I’ve just spoken with the gate agent. We certainly apologize for this awkward situation. The Agent has corrected your paperwork and has a voucher for future travel for you as well. Please go fetch your new boarding pass and your voucher, and we’ll be on our way.”

I Won!

The woman departs the plane, heading to the gate agent for her new boarding pass and travel voucher. She even left with a triumphant smile on her face.

The entitled woman thought she had won, but her smile wouldn’t last long!

Goodbye, Lady

As soon as the woman left, the pilot turned to the flight attendant and said, “Prepare the doors for departure.”

The flight attendant immediately got to work and closed the aircraft’s doors.

Taking Off

The pilot returned to his seat, and the plane pushed back from the gate.

While this happened, OP saw the woman pounding on the glass next to the jetway. OP noted, “It was a nice ride to Houston. The coffee was wonderful.”

The Community’s Two Cents

Some Redditors noted that getting troublesome passengers off of a flight like this was becoming more common practice than calling security.

One said, “I have heard of this strategy from this subreddit before. Evidently, it’s much easier and less disruptive to flight schedules to just kick them off that way than to bring airport security aboard the plane.”

Another shared, “There is a clause in the fine print that if you leave the plane after you have already boarded, you are giving up on the flight. It’s for security—-oops, let me go get my backpack. I ‘left’ that has my drugs, I mean children’s books—but it’s great for getting off people who think that the world revolves around them.”

How Could She Assume That?

People also couldn’t believe the woman’s audacity to try to steal someone’s seat, in First Class, no less!

“Did this lady think she could just claim she upgraded to first class and kick somebody out of their seat? Serves her right to have the plane leave without her,” wrote one Redditor. Another said, “Doubly sucks to be her if she had any checked bags already on the plane. Serves her right.”

What do you think of OP’s story? Have you ever encountered something similar before?
