Problems Plaguing Their Family
OP’s (Original Poster) paternal grandfather passed away a year before this story was posted. However, their family problems are slowly coming to the surface.
His Grandfather
Per OP, his grandfather was a “rough man,” and his “family stayed away from him.” He said it wasn’t easy to be around him unless you found your way and tried to get along.
He shared, “He wasn’t mean, racist, or homophobic; he was just rough in his ways. He preferred to mind his own business and had a lot of trouble expressing himself or his feelings.”
The Family’s Past
OP’s grandfather wasn’t that rough and distant with his dad, uncles, and aunts. He was quite the opposite when they were growing up.
However, they never knew what had happened for him to flip the switch.
Their Bond
Fortunately, OP and his grandfather “found their way.” For him, it was both easy and challenging at the same time.
Both of them had to be direct, and his grandfather really tried. He’d never get a word of praise from him, nor would he play with or hug him.
