Working in sales is tough. So, after months of chasing after a client, OP (Original Poster) finally got a great deal. Well, everything went down the drain because of his “idiot boss!”
Venting Out His Frustrations

When OP posted this story, everything was fresh, as things had just happened. He’s so furious that he needs someone to vent his frustrations on.
Working in Sales

OP shared that he worked at an office that sells commodities worldwide.
He wrote, “I work in sales, and despite having a small salary, I can make good money with commissions.”
A Great Prospective Client

He’d been chasing down a company he wanted to strike a deal with for months. So, he was over the moon when he finally convinced them to buy a lot from their company!
His Earnings

OP shared that the company he struck a deal with made an order worth $300,000. Since he had a 10% commission, he’d receive $30,000 after everything was finalized.
All for $300

When everything was ready, the client made the payment of $300,000. However, OP mentioned that their bank would take a 0.1% commission.
It was a lot, and the total would be $300. However, it was standard practice, so OP didn’t think much of it.
He Has a Different Idea

However, unlike OP, his boss was hung up on the $300.
So, OP shared, “My idiot boss decided that we shouldn’t pay for those $300, so he rejected the payment and told the client that they should send more money to cover the $300.”
Getting Frustrated

The client was understandably angry with the request. However, they decided to make the payment again.
This time, they transferred $300,300 to the bank.
Stupidity at Its Finest

So, with the 0.1% commission the bank will get, OP’s company will receive $299,999.70. However, it seems OP’s boss was still not happy with this!
Such a Stupid Move

This time, OP’s boss was hung up on the measly $0.30.
He said, “For those miserable $0.30, my idiot boss decided to reject the payment again and told the client that they should pay for those $0.30 as well.”
The Deal Is Off!

The client was so angry, and he’d had enough!
OP wrote, “He called my boss every name in the book and then decided that he doesn’t want to make business with a company so petty.”
You Cost Me $30,000!

Because of this, OP lost the deal he had worked so hard for. After months of chasing them down, the client and his $30,000 in commission are gone!
Shocked and Furious

OP is understandably furious about this whole situation. He’s speechless and can’t believe they lost a $300,000 deal just because of a measly $0.30!
He said, “I am speechless and thinking about sending my two weeks’ notice.”
What the Community Has to Say

For Redditors, OP should pack his stuff and go!
Someone who experienced something similar said, “I have done that. Cost me a commission, and I quit. No notice, no warning, I packed up my office and left.” Another shared, “There’s every chance they’ll tell him to leave once he gives notice anyway. That’s pretty standard with any sales position.”
You Should Leave

People understand how frustrating OP’s situation was, and it was entirely justifiable for him to up and leave.
“If this story is even real, I have no idea why you’d consider staying. You just lost years’ worth of savings due to your boss being a t***. I’d have left on the spot. Salespeople that can get a $300,000 order from a flaky customer are always in demand,” noted one Redditor.
Another user suggested, “OP, this is how you should approach this. Go to your boss’s boss earnestly but also under the guise of salvaging this sale. Approach your boss’s boss as a concerned worker for the company, not to snitch on your dips*** boss. Later, perhaps in a follow-up conversation. If the buyer still doesn’t want to do business, talk to them about how you literally made the sale and therefore deserve the commission. Your boss’s screw-up is not yours. If the company doesn’t honor it, leave and consider hiring a lawyer. Check the wording in your contract about commissions very carefully. The fact that the buyer put through payment twice shows you fully did your job to earn a commission.”
What do you think of what OP’s boss did? Do you think he could still salvage this deal?
