Everybody’s expected to wait their turn. However, the influencer OP (Original Poster) encountered seemed to think she was a cut above the rest!
The Shop’s System

OP used to work at a tattoo shop. The shop had a “first come, first served” system for piercings.
The Influencer

Then, one day, an influencer demanded that OP put her in front of the queue because “she was busy.”
So, OP tried explaining that what she wanted to have done wouldn’t be worth it.
Talk to the Piercer

She told the influencer that even if she waited in line to speak with a piercer, he would say the same thing.
OP shared, “She wanted to get her belly button piercing bar shortened after only three days for a photoshoot, but this can be extremely damaging to the healing process.”
Throwing a Tantrum

The influencer then threw “a literal tantrum,” and she just “stormed off!”
OP thought it would be the end of things, but she couldn’t be more wrong.
A Call From Her Boss

One hour after the influencer left, her boss called her, furious.
OP wrote, “I get a call from my boss asking me why someone with 10 million Instagram followers is blowing up the shop for having the worst customer service and to never go to the shop.”
You’re Fired!

She immediately lost her job after that. OP didn’t have a chance to win the fight, as when her boss called, it seemed he had already decided.
The Reasons

Sadly, OP didn’t get fired because she did something wrong or jeopardized a client’s well-being.
Instead, she said, “I lost my job because an influencer didn’t want to be treated like us common folk and wait in a line.”
All for Nothing

OP had a hard time getting into the industry. However, in a blink of an eye, or through just one person’s Instagram post, she lost her “livelihood in one of the hardest career markets to get into.”
Who Is She?

The story happened a year before OP shared it on the platform, and though some people wanted her to call out the influencer, she said, “I honestly couldn’t pick this woman out of a lineup.”
Not Memorable Enough

OP didn’t remember anything concrete about the influencer.
She said, “I don’t remember her name or anything, just that she was a Russian influencer with long brown hair living in Los Angeles. Do with that what you will. Her name might have started with an A, but that’s really all I recall.”
What She Remembers

However, OP pointed out that there’s one thing she remembers. She said, “Side note; influencers look nothing like their Instagram photos in real life.”
The Community’s Thoughts

Some users called OP’s old boss out for being extremely unfair.
“Just a s***** boss. What do 10 million followers even mean? It’s probably 20% bots and 75% guys who just want to see hot pics of her. What percent of the remaining followers live in or near your city, what percent of those care about tattoos, and what percent of those would choose where to go based purely on this one person’s recommendation? I’d bet the shop didn’t lose a single customer from this. Certainly not worth firing an employee over,” shared one user.
That’s Not How It Works

Though Redditors agree that the influencer did something wrong, it was really OP’s boss who should be put in the spotlight.
One wrote, “And even if she has the numbers to back it up, that’s not how this works. If you want to get the ‘Ooh, Insta-famous’ treatment, you’ll need to work it out with the management ahead of time. Otherwise, as here, you’ll probably not be recognized and risk humiliation as an influencer and unwelcome disruption to the workplace with your demands. Of course, influencers are going to do their thing, and it’s up to the management to take charge. But it sounds like they threw you under the bus instead; very poor. I would add to the OP that s***ty bosses exist in all forms, and women are as likely to qualify as men. Same with ages too. In fact, sad to say, it’s probably corporate chains that have the policies in place and firepower not to tolerate any of this nonsense.”
The Influencer Culture

People also pointed out how toxic the influencer culture has become.
This Redditor commented, “These types of influencers are the worst ‘Choosing Beggars,’ and the biggest a**holes because they have the means to do things the right way and choose to act like this.”
What do you think? Was OP’s boss unfair?
