Yet, when OP’s own birthday rolls around, her parents can’t seem ever to remember hers. They’re also always conveniently “broke.”

OP wanted to enjoy her upcoming birthday as best as possible this year. Her party might not be as great as her little sister’s, but it’d still be better than being forgotten.
So, OP took on odds-and-ends jobs like babysitting and mowing lawns to make her dream come true.
Meticulous Plans
OP carefully planned for weeks and invited all of her friends. The party was scheduled to be the day after her actual birthday.
She bought the food, snacks, and drinks herself. She even paid for a custom-made cake and was excited to show it off to her friends after picking it up—it was perfect.
The Culprit
However, the night before OP’s party, she noticed something amiss. OP opened the fridge and saw a slice missing from her cake!
Time to Interrogate
OP confronted her dad about the missing slice. In reply, he shrugged and “nonchalantly” said that her little sister had started crying for a piece, so they had given in to her demands.
Her dad added that her friends “wouldn’t notice” that a slice was missing.

After all this, OP no longer felt like holding her birthday party at their home. Since changing venues at the last minute was impossible because OP didn’t have the means to, she decided to call the entire thing off.

Sadly, as if everything else hadn’t been enough, one of OP’s friends told her she had “overreacted” by calling the birthday party off. She told OP that she should have “grit her teeth” and gone through with holding the party at home instead of canceling it just hours before.
