Weekend Mistakes

The weekend before this story was posted, OP (Original Poster) was hanging out with her best friend. Then, she unexpectedly left her wallet in her friend’s car!
No Problem

At first, it wasn’t an issue. After all, it was easy to contact her best friend and ask her to meet up so she could get her wallet back.
However, OP didn’t expect things to be so hard.
Backing Out

They made numerous plans, but her best friend would always back out.
She wrote, “Every time we set a time to meet, she cancels, changes the time, or has an excuse as to why she can’t meet for me to get my wallet.”
Dropping By

Because of this, OP offered to drop by her house to pick up her wallet. However, her best friend made up another excuse and said she was “never” home.
Taking Matters Into Her Own Hands

OP was getting frustrated. So, she told her she would only have her debit card.
She had the other cards in her wallet canceled and reported as stolen.
Not-So-Friendly Disagreements

Her best friend instantly “flipped her s***.” She then accused OP of being a “b****” and an “a**hole” for doing what she did.
You’re a Bad Friend

Apart from that, she told OP how much of a “bad friend” she was for not trusting her. She said OP was “bullying” her for “treating her like a thief and a criminal.”
Where’s the Wallet?

After their argument, OP finally got her wallet back.
She shared, “The wallet has been returned. It was left with the security guard at the entrance gate where I live.”
One Less Friend

OP shared that her friendship with her so-called best friend had ended, and it was a mutual agreement.
She said, “I should have been more mindful of her red flags, and I should have taken into account that she was never really a friend and was more so using me.”
Quick Replacements

In an edit, OP added that it was no trouble to have her cards canceled. Per OP, she could get same-day replacements through her bank.
What the Community Has to Say

Redditors believed that OP’s so-called best friend wasn’t a true friend at all.
One said, “Not the a**hole. If I had a friend react like this, my first assumption would be they’re trying to steal from me.” Another shared, “My brother lost his wallet once, and it had like a couple of hundred dollars in it. The man that found it tracked my brother down using the information in the wallet, reached out, and returned it with no money taken from it. A literal stranger was willing to go out of his way to return my brother’s wallet when it would have been easier to just keep the money for himself. OP’s friend is straight-up trash.”
She’s Shady

Some users couldn’t fathom how sketchy OP’s best friend was being.
“Any of my friends would just give me the wallet undisturbed. She is being shady,” said one commenter. Another wrote, “I’ve lost a wallet drunk at a friend of a friend’s house, and they literally texted me that morning to come by and get it, or if I couldn’t, his little brother would run it by on the way to work.”
Break up This Friendship

Some users agreed with OP’s decision to end their friendship.
One said, “No one wants to even have someone think they are a thief or someone who would take ‘advantage’ of a friend’s trouble. You can’t be true friends with someone like that. The fact OP’S friend is offended means she understands how it looks; that almost makes it worse, in my opinion.”
Appreciate Good Friends

For other Redditors, OP’s post helped them realize how lucky they were to have good friends.
One user shared, “Any of my friends would have realized I left my wallet and turned around to return it to me before I even realized. God d***, this sub makes me really appreciate my friends a lot more.” Another replied, “Right? The exact thing happened to me. I was terrified I left it somewhere public, but a friend of a friend texted me, letting me know it was on the couch and I could come by whenever. I feel for OP. With friends like that, who needs enemies?”
What do you think of OP’s situation? Would you do the same if you were in her shoes?
