OP (Original Poster) has been married to her husband, Andy, for five years. Sadly, a year after their wedding, OP’s mother-in-law passed away.
Left alone, OP told Andy they should ask his dad, Jacob, to live with them or Andy’s sister, Monica. OP wrote, “I think it’s the Asian in me that makes me feel we are obligated to take care of my father-in-law.”
A Firm Refusal
So, Andy called his sister, Monica, to discuss their dad’s living arrangements. She lived in Maryland, while OP and her husband lived in Ohio.
Unfortunately, Monica’s husband, Arthur, was immediately against the idea. He told them they had no room in their house; they had an extra bedroom, which was reserved for guests.
