After receiving a fake $100 bill as a tip, this Redditor waited for the customer’s return so she could get her revenge. It was two weeks in the making, but it was absolutely worth it!
The Restaurant’s Regular

OP (Original Poster) had a guy who frequently came to the restaurant she works at. He’s typically quiet and never tips generously.
OP wrote, “Most of the time, he comes with a couple of friends or by himself and sits at the bar and watches a sports game.”
A New Couple?

OP never had any problem with him until he came to the restaurant with a woman. She had never seen her before, so she assumed they were new to dating.
The couple was seated at a quieter part of the restaurant, specifically at the table assigned to her.
As Smooth as Could Be

At first, OP had no problem with them, and everything went smoothly. However, things took a turn when they asked for their bill.
OP wrote, “They asked for the check, and I went right around the corner from their table. It was close by, so I was quick.”
A Generous Tip

As she was nearing their table, she heard the man say to the woman, “Watch this,” as he put a $100 bill on the table. When he realized OP saw what he did, he jokingly said, “Oh! You weren’t supposed to see that!”
Unexpected but Appreciated

Although it was evident that the man was trying to impress his date, OP felt elated either way. She didn’t care about his true intentions, waited for them to leave the restaurant, and grabbed the $100 bill.
She’s Been Fooled!

However, her excitement quickly turned into disappointment when OP unfolded it and saw it was fake. This suggests that the guy planned this out to impress his date.
In OP’s words, “Either the woman was in on it, or he decided to be a jerk in two different ways.”
Until Next Time

This made OP frustrated because, aside from actually needing the money, she thought that she did a great job serving them. She told her manager about what happened, who exclaimed, “Wow! That’s ridiculous.”
In the meantime, she decided to keep the fake money, hoping to get revenge on the guy.
Finally, the Day Has Come

After two weeks, the man came back with the same woman. The manager recognized the customer and informed OP, asking her if she wanted their table.
She was working at a different side of the restaurant at the time, which was already busy.
Time for Her Sweet Revenge

However, she would often joke with her manager about throwing back the fake $100 on the guy if he ever returned with the same woman so she could humiliate him. So, even though her plate was full, she thought one more table couldn’t hurt.
She smirked and told her manager, “Absolutely, no problem.” OP then ran to her car to grab the fake $100 bill she’d been saving in her cup holder for this exact moment.
What’s He Nervous For?

When OP got to their table, the customers quickly recognized her. The woman seemed to be acting normal, while the man looked nervous.
The Moment of Truth

OP pretended as if nothing happened and waited until they asked for the check. When she brought it to them, she placed it on the table along with the unfolded $100 bill, clearly showing that it was fake.
After that, she looked at the guy and said, “Hey, not sure if you remember me from last time, but I believe you forgot this. Just returning it because I believed it was too much,” pertaining to the fake money on the table.
I Just Know He’s Lying

The woman looked really confused, indicating that she was not involved. On the other hand, the guy got very nervous and denied that he knew what OP was talking about.
Her Way of Making Amends

OP then laughingly said, “Oh! My mistake,” before wishing the woman a good night and walking away.
When she returned to the table after they left the restaurant, there was a huge $0.00 written on the signed copy of the receipt and an actual $50 bill on the side of the table where the woman sat.
She’s Good, He’s Not

The guy didn’t want to tip OP using his own money, so he wrote big zeros where a tip should be. The $50 bill, on the other hand, appears to be from the woman he was with, as it was placed on her side of the table.
Watch Out, Girl!

OP had no idea if the couple stayed together or not, as they had never been back to the restaurant ever since. It’s been a few weeks since that happened, and she hopes the woman was made aware of the guy’s red flags.
What the Community Has to Say

The community is on OP’s side, saying that the customer deserved what she did and that it was helpful to the woman he was with.
The top commenter said, “You did that poor woman a favor.”
Another user added to what the top commenter shared, saying, “And she acknowledged and appreciated it based on the tip left behind. Nice to see people looking out for each other like that.”
Sharing Similar Experiences

Redditors who also worked in the service industry shared their experiences with bad customers and how they handled it.
“I worked as a cocktail waitress years ago where we wore our own clothes—no uniform—and had to carry our change and tips in a highball glass on our tray. Along comes quarter beer night, and some jerks literally deliberately made a fist and came up under my tray hard so everything would go flying, and they had a good laugh. Not so funny when I came back with the beers and ‘accidentally’ spilled them on them. Lost the job, but so worth it,” a commenter said.
Another wrote, “As someone who has been in the industry for over two decades, I love this. I had a party once that tipped me in pennies spread across the table when they left. I scooped that s*** up so fast and chased them out and just dumped it at their feet with an ‘I think you forgot something.’ Yes, I got in trouble. Yes, it was worth it.”
Was OP right for humiliating the guy in front of his date? What are your thoughts?
