This Redditor got the police involved after a 24-year-old woman tried to run away after hitting his car! She thought apologizing was enough, but OP believed every action has a consequence!
Running Away From Her Mistake

OP’s (Original Poster) car was hit by another woman’s car in a parking lot. Instead of apologizing, checking for damages, and trying to find a solution, she drove off.
So, OP honked at her for 10 seconds until she stopped somewhere in the parking lot.
Trying to Feign Innocence

She stopped, rolled down the window, and asked, “What do you want?” So, OP explained that she had hit his car, but she didn’t believe OP.
OP then pointed out the damage on his car and hers, as the woman’s car’s paint was on his. It was only after this that the woman agreed to pull over and discuss the problem.
I’m Just a “Little Girl!”

They parked in a clear space and got out of their cars. Then, the woman started apologizing to OP, saying she was just a “little girl!”
She also told him she didn’t notice that she hit anything. But OP didn’t believe her because the impact was quite hard, and the cars shook violently when it happened.
Acting Odd

OP noted that the woman was acting odd and was “extremely adamant” about him not involving the police. He also said that she seemed to be under the influence of something, but he could not prove anything at the moment.
Trying to Make Things Right

OP then apologized for yelling at the woman but told her he only did it because he got angry that she was trying to escape. He then just asked her for her information so they could get the insurance companies to “hash it out.”
His Concerns

While getting his stuff from his car, he was concerned about the woman continuing to drive because it seemed to him that she had been drinking. When he turned around, however, a man was standing with the woman—causing him to be on guard.
The Woman’s Husband

The man turns out to be the woman’s husband, so he takes control of the whole situation. Like his wife, the man was also adamant about not getting the police involved.
The woman’s husband started to give OP the information he needed, and the woman who hit his car got into the passenger seat and buckled her seatbelt.
Involving the Police

OP bent down to get the car’s license plate, and while doing so, he told the man that he would still need to get the police involved.
In his post, he said, “I do not give him a reason at the time, but I wanted to involve them because I think she has been drinking, and I would feel terrible if a worse accident happens after this and I didn’t call the police.”
Driving Off

When the woman’s husband heard about the police’s involvement, OP heard him close up the insurance information. He then walked around him to the car’s driver’s seat, reversed, and drove off!
Calling the Police

OP proceeded with calling the police to give them the car’s license plate and told them about what had happened; he also gave them the video of the accident.
The police tracked the woman down and asked her about what had happened.
Scared and Sorry

The woman explained that she was scared after fighting with her husband that night, so her husband just “wanted to get her out of the situation.” She also told the police she was sorry for leaving the scene and was willing to provide all the information needed for the insurance companies.
OP shared, “She is willing to give all her information to the insurance companies to get the car fixed, and if they will not do it, then she will cover the repairs.” He noted that the repair costs were around $2,500 to $2,600.
Keeping the Charges in Place

OP decided not to drop the charges, mainly because he believed that “Everyone’s actions have consequences and simply saying sorry or being a ‘little girl’ does not make you exempt from those consequences.”
She Needs to Be Accountable

OP added that the woman was 24 years old and was driving under the influence of something. He thinks it was a terrible choice that would endanger many others, especially if he kept quiet about it.
He said, “If I let her off the hook, I feel like that’s me telling her that what she did was okay.”
Redditors’ Thoughts

Redditors believed OP did the right thing and even advised him never to drop the charges, no matter what happens moving forward.
One said, “Not the a**hole. She attempted to hit and run. That was the first instinct. If you dropped charges, that may have led her insurance company to refuse payment, which would have made your insurance company turn its attention to you.”
Entitled People

The community also said that it was sad that many people feel entitled and think they never did anything wrong.
“Many people won’t admit it because many people can also be entitled, and they never do anything wrong,” said one user. But another argued, “Insurance companies say not to admit fault, so I don’t know if it’s entitlement as much as doing what we know protects us best.”
You Did the Right Thing!

Overall, Redditors supported OP and blamed the woman and her husband.
Someone wrote, “Not the a**hole; you don’t know that she was under the influence of anything, so that is just an opinion. As far as pressing charges, both she and the husband should be in trouble since he drove away from the scene without exchanging information. I also find it annoying that a competent 24-year-old with a driver’s license would refer to themselves as a ‘little girl.’ Ugh. Little girls don’t drive cars, so perhaps the police can help her out with that. You did the right thing; let the police handle them and the insurance company handles the car. This couple is a hot mess; the more degrees of separation, the better.”
