A woman was getting ready for her wedding and bought the dress of her dreams. But then her sister demanded she get a new one because she liked the one her sister picked so much!
A Girl and Her Sister
OP (Original Poster) is a 24-year-old woman with a sister named Jamie, a 32-year-old woman. Three months before she posted this story, her sister got engaged to her partner, Aaron.
Something in the Air
OP was also engaged to a man named Daniel, who is 25. She and Daniel had been together for five years and engaged for one.
The relationship between the sisters was strained and complicated because of past fights and altercations. OP said that her sister, Jamie, had always tried to make her life “miserable,” but she took it too far this time.
Not long ago, OP, her sister, and her mother went shopping for a wedding dress. OP was getting married before Jamie, and the date was not far off.
The Perfect Dress
While looking for dresses, OP immediately found one she fell in love with. It was a beautiful wedding dress with white lace and flowers woven into the design.
This One, Please!
OP had the dress sized to make sure that the fit was perfect. Once done, they returned home triumphant from their shopping trip.
Are You Serious?
A week before the wedding date, OP’s sister approached her. She showed her a picture of a dress she liked, and to OP’s surprise, it was the same dress OP had bought.
Help a Sister Out
OP’s sister told her she had fallen in love with everything about the dress and wanted to wear it. She then asked OP if she would mind getting a new dress so they wouldn’t have the same one.
Never Gonna Happen
Obviously, OP told her sister no because her wedding was in a week, and she had already bought and fitted the dress. OP’s sister lost it, accused her of “ruining everything,” and told her “how unfair” she was being.
Looming on the Horizon
Once the fight was over, OP had hoped that she wouldn’t have to hear about the dress again. As it turned out, her sister had something else in mind.
Back With the Dress
Later that day, OP found her sister in a room she was not supposed to be in with her dress. When she went in to confront her sister, she saw that Jamie had scissors and intended to cut her dress into pieces.
OP screamed at her sister to stop and took her dress back from her. Her sister then told her that nothing of the sort would have happened if she had just picked a different dress.
Not Again, Never Again
That was the last straw! OP had had enough of her sister, and she told her she was no longer welcome at the wedding and that she was absolutely “crazy.”
However, when OP told her fiancé, he said she might have “taken it too far.” OP asked, “I don’t think I did. Am I the a**hole?”
What Redditors Have to Say
Most of those who commented couldn’t believe what OP’s sister had done. It was not your expected behavior from an average, well-adjusted adult.
The top commenter summed it up pretty well, saying, “Your sister sounds clinically insane. She wanted to ruin your entire wedding out of jealousy. I’d cut her out of my life, not just the wedding. Not the a**hole.”
No one took the side of her sister, with another saying, “Not the a**hole. She attempted to cut up your wedding dress. Ban her and anyone who supports her actions from your wedding. Call the police, and then your mother, fingerprint the scissors.”
Many Redditors also pointed out how strange and out of place her fiancé’s reaction was.
One said, “You did not take it too far, and he needs to be put back in line pronto before he becomes a flying monkey for your crazy jealous sister. Your relationship with your family is none of his business.”
Another went further, saying, “What the hell is wrong with your fiancé? You do not want the person who wanted to ruin your wedding dress at your wedding, and he said you took it too far? Not the a**hole.”
Should OP have changed her dress? Is her sister in serious need of psychological assistance?
