He Boycotted His Sister’s Wedding After Learning She Lied and Banned His 12-Year-Old, All Because His Amputated Leg Would Outshine Her. Now He’s Accused of “Ruining” Her Big Day!

This Redditor was so excited to see his little sister get married. But his happy demeanor changed when he found out she deliberately banned his son because of his disability!

OP (Original Poster) is 32, while his younger sister is 30. She had just gotten married the day before this story was posted, and OP was “so happy for her” that he agreed to help her out on her big day.

A Child-Free Wedding

Before his sister’s big day, she told OP the wedding would be child-free. OP completely understood why she would want to make it so.

Since he’s a single dad, he asked his best friend if there was any way he could watch his son for the day. Thankfully, his friend happily agreed.

It Was Anything But!

When OP arrived, he found out that the wedding was anything but child-free! His sister lied to his face about the guests.

Unexpected Response

There were around 15 kids in the venue, and OP was absolutely confused. Despite the negative feelings brewing inside him, he didn’t want to make a scene.

He waited until his sister approached him and asked her what “the deal” was. OP, however, never expected the words that would come out of his sister’s mouth.

What OP’s sister told him broke his heart into pieces. He said, “I don’t know how I can look at her the same way again.”

She confessed that OP’s 12-year-old son was excluded from the wedding because he has an amputated leg. OP wrote, “She said it would draw attention to him at the wedding.”

An Absurd Reason

OP could have understood any other excuse, like if his son would be disruptive. However, his sweet boy being banned because of his amputated leg was unacceptable.

He almost lost it and blew up at his sister’s wedding!

Walking Out and Walking Away

He didn’t trust himself to stay calm if he remained at the wedding. So, he just walked out and went home.

When he got home, his son asked why he was back so early, breaking him even more. He made up “some excuse” and then spent the rest of the day having fun with him.

He didn’t want to sadden him with the truth, and spending time with his son was the “only thing keeping him sane.”

Nonstop Messages

Since this happened, OP has received dozens of messages from family and friends. They’ve all been painting OP as a jerk for how he left.

You’ve Ruined Everything!

People have been saying how leaving caused his sister to start crying during her big day. They said that he’d ruined the whole wedding!

Not a Care in the World

Even so, OP couldn’t find it within him to care at all. He and his son were hurt due to something they couldn’t control.

In Need of Support

OP has been a “mess” since then. What’s more heartbreaking is that he’s a single dad who doesn’t have someone to help him cope.

Although he feels like he made the right decision, he can’t help but ask and wonder, “Am I the a**hole?”

Redditors’ Reactions

Simply put, Redditors couldn’t grasp how disgusting OP’s sister acted.

A top commenter said, “Not the a**hole. Holy s***. What was your sister even thinking? That you suddenly would not notice that 15 other children were there? Did she exclude every other person with visible disabilities because they might take attention away from her on her precious day? What she did was just plain cruel.”

Another who had the same experience shared, “My sister is like this too. She is the reason we have almost no photos of my dad on my wedding day—because she was constantly needing him for something. I resent her even more because she has always been a selfish leech, and my dad just died in February, and even at the eulogy, she had to make it about herself.”

Others pointed out that OP’s sister was so shallow to be worried that a child with a disability would get more attention than her.

“She wasn’t worried that anyone would judge; the bride was p**** that her nephew would get more attention than she would on her wedding day, where she wanted to be the center of the universe,” said one user.

Another Redditor wrote, “Crazy, narcissistic, unempathetic bride and OP is so not the a**hole! He did the right thing by walking away from his son’s toxic aunt! But isn’t the thing about the kid taking attention away from her and also her being really delusional? I mean, it’s not like her nephew would come to the wedding dressed in short shorts! Only the people that already knew him would have known. No one else would have been any wiser! So her excuse is just so ridiculous, and I’m so sorry OP had to experience such a horrible act from his sister.”

Do you think OP did the right thing by boycotting his sister’s wedding? What would you tell OP’s sister?
