His grandparents took him in when his mom abandoned him, making him the sole inheritor of their estate. Now his half-sister wants a cut for a procedure that’ll make her prettier!
Abandoned by His Mom

OP (Original Poster) was conceived when his mom, Clara, had an affair. Her husband, Greg, was furious and refused to raise him.
He shared that a paternity test wasn’t needed because he’s a “mixed” child. He explained that his dad must be Black, though he never met or knew his name.
Taken in by Kind Souls

Greg refused to raise another man’s child and wanted him out of his life as soon as possible. Thankfully, OP’s grandparents loved him no matter what, and they raised him instead of his mom.
Finding a Family in His Grandparents

OP’s grandparents loved him with all their hearts. He shared that his grandmother was an American-Italian who made it her priority to care for OP, and she’d been OP’s “only Mama.”
His grandfather, on the other hand, was a strict man but was also caring and had always been OP’s idol.
Grandparents’ Fury

However, no matter how open they were to raising OP, they could never get past their anger at OP’s mom. They were enraged that she cheated, and more so because she abandoned OP.
Losing the Only Parents He’d Ever Known

Unfortunately, OP’s grandmother died when she was 64 from a heart attack. Then, his grandfather passed away at 71 due to lung cancer.
Because both his grandparents were angry at OP’s mom, they made him inherit almost everything.
Hundreds of Thousands in His Pocket

OP’s grandfather had life insurance, and OP became the only beneficiary of almost $300,000. He also got the house he was raised in, with a market value of around $280,000.
Lastly, his grandfather created a family or emergency fund worth $400,000, and OP was tasked to manage it.
Rules of the Trade

The only rules attached to the fund were simple.
OP wrote, “I can use it only for emergencies. It’s only for me and my half-siblings. Clara and Greg are not included in this fund.”
One at a Time

OP had already helped some of his half-siblings, and no problems have arisen so far.
He shared that he paid for his oldest half-sister’s IVF treatment for her fertility issues, which amounted to around $40,000; he deemed this an emergency because it was already taking a toll on her mental health. Then, he also paid $15,000 for his other half-sister’s appendix removal.
A New Request

However, the issue was that his youngest half-sister wanted to get some money from the emergency fund to have plastic surgery.
He wrote, “She plans to have plastic surgery, a whole package of it: breast, nose, hips, and more. It would erase nearly half of what is left in the fund.”
You Don’t Need That!

OP, however, immediately turned her down because it wasn’t an emergency. He would be okay with funding the procedures if she really needed it; for example, if she got into a car accident.
However, OP’s half-sister’s reasons are anything but.
All for the Aesthetics

His half-sister wants to get plastic surgery done so she can have a “makeover” for her boyfriend.
OP explained that his half-sister didn’t have any “deformations.” She’s an “average-looking woman” for her age but wants to be “special.”
Legal Threats

Unsurprisingly, this led to an argument between OP and his half-sister. Ultimately, his half-sister threatened to sue him!
But OP wrote, “They had sued me before, but Grandpa had made sure everything was totally fine.”
Enabling Her Wasteful Lifestyle

Because of OP’s conflict with his youngest half-sister, he made it a point to discuss things with the rest of his half-siblings.
He shared, “They had no clue about her plans. My mother tried to enable her and her lifestyle, and now my other siblings are very upset.”
A Final Reminder

He then reminded everyone that the emergency fund is only for health issues. After that, he turned around, and the rest of his half-siblings started a “screaming match” between them.
OP left them to argue and planned to stand by his decision.
What Redditors Think

People of the community flocked to the comments section to share what they think about OP’s predicament. Most, if not all, Redditors believed OP did the right thing!
A top commenter said, “Not the a**hole. Stand your ground; that’s not an emergency in the slightest. Let them try to sue you. As long as you have some form of proof, you don’t need to give her anything for non-emergencies.”
Then another user suggested, “If she tries to pull any bulls*** that might work in her favor, just explain it would take what’s left, which could be used for an actual emergency. Personally, I’d cut that relationship off as soon as possible.”
That’s Bullying!

Others think his family’s trying to guilt him into doing what they want him to do.
“It almost sounds like they’re trying to bully him into agreeing and then using that as proof of ‘misuse’ in order to take over the whole thing. Perhaps not. Not the a**hole, anyhow,” wrote one man.
Another Redditor wrote, “They sued you before? And you are still talking to them? Run as fast as you can from them! Block all contact and get a lawyer to send letters to the ones you don’t want contact with, saying, from this point on, all contact will be through your lawyer. What garbage people. Put them in the bin!”
What do you think of OP’s family? What would you do if you were in his shoes?
