Strained Relationship
OP is a 23-year-old who does not get along with her mom or stepdad. Because of this, she said, “I would never willingly stay at their house except for emergencies.”
I’m Not a Monster
When she posted this story, her great-grandmother “was on her last legs.” So, her mom wanted to fly over to see her one last time.
She said, “While I don’t like my mom, I’m also not a monster like her.” So, she agreed with her mom’s request.
What She Needed to Do
While they were gone, her mom asked her to stay at their house and care for her 8-year-old brother. It was only for two weeks, and she was happy to do so, so she agreed.
Her Other Siblings
She mentioned it was the perfect arrangement since her 17-year-old brother worked all day and some nights. On the other hand, her 19-year-old sister is an “irresponsible witch of a woman like her mom.”
Her Conditions
She didn’t trust her sister to take care of their youngest sibling. So, she agreed “under the condition that she wasn’t allowed to stay there” while OP was house sitting and babysitting.
You Need to Pay Us!
Two weeks after, her mom and stepdad came back. The moment they did, they asked OP to pay two weeks’ worth of rent.
That was equivalent to $900!

They said OP stayed at their house for two weeks, and during that time, she “took up the whole house.” Her mom said she made her sister leave for two weeks, and since they weren’t there either, OP should “pay for the rent for the time they weren’t there.”

She wrote, “I told them, ‘Sure, I’ll take it off the babysitting bill,’” Then, she said they owed her $5,820, which was $20 an hour minus the $900 they were trying to make her pay.
