This Redditor lived in a “perfect” neighborhood, but one day, a guy moved there and ruined the peace their community had. He’s had enough, so he made sure he’d be gone for good!
He Lives for Solitude
There’s nothing else that OP (Original Poster) wants but peace and quiet and to be left alone. So, as someone in his late 20s, he lived by himself and had no kids.
The Perfect Neighborhood
His neighborhood consists of separate homes without yards spaced close to each other. OP has lived there for five years by himself, and to him, it’s perfect.
He added, “It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. No yards to take care of, and no kids around making noises.”
Everyone’s on Their Own
OP explained that the houses share a huge T-shaped cement driveway, and none of the people there have ever interacted with each other. They just come and go, stay quiet, and mind their own businesses.
There’s also a small park with grass down the street for people who want it, which is only a 30-second walk away.
New Arrivals
However, a year before this story was posted, things started to change due to a man with many little kids moving into OP’s neighborhood. As usual, just like OP does with anyone else, he drove past him, closed his garage, and never spoke to him, and it wasn’t a problem—initially.
But over time, his neighbor started making himself at home.
A Rule Breaker
The guy would park his huge truck in the motor court—although there’s a sign saying it’s illegal because it’s a fire lane. The truck would also block the guy’s neighbor’s garage across from him.
Apart from this, OP’s new neighbor would set up lawn chairs in front of his neighbor’s garage and have his little kids run and scream right in front of other people’s houses and garages. He said, “We would have to listen to it and then try not to run over the children as we back our cars out of the garages.”
A Disturbance to Their Peaceful Community
On Saturdays, the guy would rev his motorcycle at eight in the morning, waking the whole neighborhood. Aside from that, when his kids would block the driveway, they would take their sweet time moving.
OP wrote, “Because of this, I did one simple thing. When I would come home every day and drive past or around them, I wouldn’t wave back when he waved at me. Oh, how that hurt his pride. He should’ve left it at that, but no. He had to press the issue.”
Getting Worse and Worse and Worse
After that, OP’s neighbor started waving more and then escalated to shouting at him as he drove past. The guy even told his kids to stop, stand, and wave at OP every time he went past, but he ignored all of them.
However, OP’s neighbor didn’t like how he just drove around his kids that were in the way, even though OP always drove at a safe speed. Eventually, the guy tried to confront him.
An Awkward Confrontation
While he was getting out of his car and as the garage door was closing, his neighbor shouted at his car and came to his garage. The door closed right before his face without OP ever looking at him.
The guy didn’t like what happened and hurriedly walked to OP’s front door. But when he saw that OP had a doorbell camera, he turned around and walked away.
No End in Sight
Several days after that incident, OP was coming home and saw that his neighbor was crossing the driveway. As OP arrived, the guy once again told his kids to stop and wave at him.
OP wrote, “The dips*** stopped in the middle, so he stood in my way to block my car while trying to get the kid to move, and so I honked my car for three seconds right in his face until he moved.”
Playing His Cards Right
After this wild interaction, he decided that the guy had annoyed him enough. OP explained that he lives in a community with a homeowner’s association or HOA, and while he doesn’t really care about any of the rules, he used them all to report his neighbor.
OP endlessly reported him for every violation he knew of and even provided evidence using his car’s dashcam screenshots.
Getting What He Deserved
When they gave OP’s neighbor a ticket, he stopped parking in the motor court. After a while, he even had to throw out the child’s playhouse he had set up next to his garage.
OP added, “I kept reporting him for having an open garage door that I don’t actually care about in order to get him to have to stop hanging out in the motor court, and, oh, I don’t know, maybe use his brain and take the kids down the street to the park.”
So Long, Annoying Neighbor!
After four months of repeatedly reporting his neighbor, OP’s hard work finally paid off. His annoying neighbor gave up and eventually moved away!
