Unforgettable Mistake
OP (Original Poster) started his story by sharing that he once rented a duplex in his early 20s. There was no issue with the place apart from him having a “wannabe gangster” neighbor.
His said neighbor then made the mistake of breaking into OP’s vehicle one night.
Easy Target
He shared that he owned a small SUV with a removable soft top. So, his neighbor most probably figured it would be “easy pickings” to peel back the top and help himself to OP’s stereo, amplifier, and other miscellaneous things.
At the Break of Dawn
Thankfully, OP learned about the break-in early in the morning after it occurred.
OP said, “I knew for certain who the culprit was. We were not in a heavily populated area, and my neighbor was well known for thievery.”
The Perfect Opportunity
So, OP waited around for his neighbor to leave his place. When the opportunity came, OP went to the back of the house, looked through his neighbor’s bedroom window, and saw that his things were sitting right on the floor.
Easy In, Easy Out
OP then “instinctively” tried the window, and as luck would have it, it was unlocked, and OP could open it easily!
He wrote, “Bingo! I hopped through and quickly surveyed the items lying around.”
The Perfect Payback
While snooping around, OP realized he could get some “excellent revenge” if he played things right.
So, instead of simply grabbing his things, OP thought about how to make his neighbor pay for what he’d done.
Exacting His Revenge
OP grabbed a marker and proceeded to write his name all over his stuff. He also did the same thing to a “few choice items” of his, just for good measure.
After that, he climbed out of the window and waited.
In Need of Backup
When OP’s neighbor returned, OP called the police, told them he needed help, and explained that his car got robbed and he knew it was his neighbor because he saw him in the window.
Caught in the Act!
Once the cops arrived, they knocked on his neighbor’s door.
OP wrote, “I can still remember the look on his face seeing me and the cop standing there. He was not even close to ready for the encounter and almost certainly had drugs on him, so he was very cooperative given the circumstances.”
A Bargain?
He started explaining that his neighbor had two choices. His neighbor could give back all his stuff; if not, OP would have to press charges.
To avoid escalating things, OP’s neighbor chose to return what he stole.
Mark of Ownership
After his neighbor collected his stuff and gave them back, OP pointed out to the officer that his name was written on his things.
Though it was odd to have those labeled with his name, the police officer said nothing.
My Other Things, Too, Please!
OP’s neighbor returned everything he stole from him. So, he was dumbfounded and puzzled when OP asked for the rest of his stuff.
He shared, “I rattled off the other couple of ‘choice items’ of his that I also put my name on earlier.”
