This user only wanted to ensure his dad’s comfort, especially in the case of emergencies. So, when his selfish neighbor disregarded his concerns, he took matters into his own hands to teach him a lesson!
Life in Germany
OP (Original Poster) lived next to his parents in Germany. They call their building a “reihenhäuser.”
These are a kind or type of row housing development wherein multiple houses are built next to each other. It’s commonly referred to as a “row house” in America.
Ongoing Renovations
OP and his parents don’t live alone; they also have other neighbors who live next to them.
One of their neighbors was actually doing a “big renovation” on his house. So, he had a lot of workers and trailers all over the street the whole day.
A Kind Offer
It wasn’t a big issue for OP and his parents, and they even offered their driveways as parking for the trailers and wagons during the day when they were gone.
This was a great offer because his neighbor could keep the rest of the street clear.
Medical Needs
Shortly after offering their space up, though, OP’s 72-year-old dad got diagnosed with renal colic and needed surgery. All the medical procedures went well, but he wasn’t that mobile at the moment, given what he had just gone through.
OP noted, “He needs to use his car a lot; normally, he goes by bike or just walks.”
Their Predicament
OP immediately went over to his neighbor and told him that his dad needed his parking spot regularly for the foreseeable future. Because of this, he can’t put his trailer there anymore.
He shared, “Everything seemed good, and he understood it.”
He Just Couldn’t Help It
Sadly, his dad’s driveway was only freed up for three days. After those three days, OP’s neighbor put his empty trailer back on his dad’s driveway when he was out of the house.
Two days later, his neighbor didn’t even remove it for the night.
Safety Hazard
It usually wouldn’t have been an issue. However, given OP’s dad’s situation, it could be a disaster waiting to happen.
He needed the driveway clear in case they needed to rush to the hospital or his dad needed to go somewhere.
A Short Fuse
OP acknowledged another option was to talk to his neighbor again, but he didn’t.
He said, “My friends and family say I have a short fuse and get mad really fast at unimportant stuff.”
His Priorities
In some ways, OP agreed with this. However, what’s more of an issue for him is that he “can’t stand bulls*** or ignorant people,” especially when it comes to simple stuff.
Unfortunately for his neighbor, for OP, something as simple as “Please stop blocking my sick dad’s driveway” couldn’t get any simpler!
Lying in Wait
So, the second time he came home from work to see his neighbor’s empty trailer blocking his dad’s driveway again, he decided that enough was enough.
He waited until night to see if he’d move it, but he didn’t.
You Need to Learn Your Lesson!
At one in the morning, OP got up, walked over to his dad’s driveaway, removed the break from the trailer, and pulled it out of the driveway!
They lived right at the city’s border with the surrounding wheatfields, and he then started walking down the street into the fields with his neighbor’s trailer. OP noted that the trailer wasn’t that large; it was as big as two to three wheelbarrows combined, so what he did was 100% feasible in terms of manpower.
Hidden in Plain Sight
OP walked and pulled the trailer around a mile into the fields. Though it was pretty far from the house, he noted that it was “easy to spot” for everyone walking or driving by.
Free and Clear Driveway
It’s been three weeks since that happened, and it’s safe to say OP’s neighbor learned his lesson.
He wrote, “Since then, my dad’s driveway never had a trailer on it again.”
What Redditors Think of the Issue
Users were impressed by OP’s efforts to pull the trailer more than a mile from his house.
One said, “I was more impressed at the distance. I assumed it was just made of aluminum; I’ve pulled an empty boat trailer about 100 yards before, but OP took that thing for a hike.”
Lessons Learned, for Sure!
Redditors’ also applauded OP for his genius but effective way of teaching his neighbor a lesson.
“I love everything about this. I love that your scorched Earth was both effective and not, like, destructive. As the end would say, you won this fight and every other one, too, lol. Also, for real, what a dweeb your neighbor is,” remarked one user.
One Redditor said, “Nice work. I spent several years in Germany, and I have noticed that German people are nice or neutral 99% of the time. The other one percent, they are full of rage. I also noticed that they are very helpful generally and that someone will probably find and return that trailer in a couple of hours.”
Do you think what OP did was effective? Did his neighbor deserve what happened?
