Not Exactly the Picture-Perfect Family
OP (Original Poster) is a 27-year-old woman who is a recent college graduate. Her parents have separated, but both are still in her life.
Her father also re-married, choosing a 29-year-old to be OP’s stepmother. But OP’s relationship with her stepmom, Amy, was destined to be awkward from the start, given how close in age they are.
Just Say No
OP admitted she had “no relationship” with Amy and wasn’t interested in forging bonds. She even would go so far as to avoid any family events at which her father and stepmom might be.
A Family Fraught With Problems
Even OP’s father and grandparents never had a good relationship. His marriage to a new, young wife only added fuel to the fire.
So, it didn’t surprise OP when her grandfather said she’d receive most of the inheritance and the camp they owned.

As her grandfather stated years before, OP received her grandparents’ estate and camp. She decided to keep the camp precisely as it was under her grandparents’ care.

After some time, she invited her 28-year-old girlfriend to move in with her since she was now much more financially stable.

OP was wise with her money and still had plenty in savings. One thing she wanted to do with it was spend it on a trip with her girlfriend to Australia, as she’s originally from there.

Meanwhile, OP’s father blew his own inheritance fast. He spent all of the money he had received on Amy.
A Baby on the Way
Then, OP’s father announced surprising news: Amy was pregnant! On top of that, OP’s father stated they were struggling to “afford stuff for the baby.”
Trophy Wife Status
This wasn’t a surprise, as OP noted that her father had a job, and Amy wanted to remain unemployed. Although they struggled financially, Amy seemed content with being a trophy wife.
And, even with a baby coming, it seemed she had no intentions of trying to find a way to support their family.
Alms for the Poor
Instead, OP’s dad and stepmom assumed she would help them out if they asked. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before OP’s father approached her, asking for money.
Her father wanted OP to give some of her inheritance to Amy so they could “purchase baby clothes and other necessities.”
Not a Team Player
However, OP was not giving in. OP responded to her father, saying, “The money I received is mine, and I have no interest in giving Amy anything.”
This was her right. After all, her grandparents had left most of the inheritance to her for a reason.
Family Support
OP noted that her biological mother was aware of the situation and fully supported her decision not to help her father and Amy. She didn’t need to feel guilty over what she’d done.
Spiteful Backlash
OP’s dad, however, hasn’t talked to her since their initial conversation about the money. It’s like she doesn’t even exist to him!
