OP is a 24-year-old with two siblings: her older sister, Lisa, and their younger half-sister, Kenzie. Their parents divorced when OP was young, and their parents’ custody battle was left to the court.

A year or so after the custody battle had been settled, OP’s godparents moved to the UK. They bought a large house and estate there but never forgot about OP and Lisa.

Then, another couple of years later, OP’s mom moved on from her previous marriage with OP’s dad. She remarried and had Kenzie, OP’s younger half-sister.
She wrote, “We weren’t that close because of the age gap and the time away from her, but the relationship stayed mainly positive.”
A Summer Away
When OP was in her sophomore year in high school, she flew to Mark and Vivian during the summer since she always found the UK interesting.
She shared, “Mark showed me how to drive, fish, and do a bunch of other stuff.” In many ways, Mark was like a second father to her, unlike her stepdad, Kenzie’s dad.
People Close to Her Heart
Then, a couple more years later, OP decided to attend university in Europe. While she was studying, Vivian and Mark made an effort to visit her, take her out to dinner, and more.
OP noted that her birth parents would call her occasionally but never flew out to see her. She wrote, “I ended up spending the holidays at their house, and it basically became my second home.”
A Life-Threatening Illness
Then, OP proceeded to share that she graduated the year before this story was posted. Sadly, it was also the year OP found out that Mark had cancer.
Despite his illness, Mark still came to his graduation. Soon after, OP moved back to the United States to work.
Losing a Part of Her
Mark passed away in early 2023, and OP was heartbroken not to have spent time with him before he died. However, she and Lisa flew to the UK for his funeral.
Inheriting Millions
After the funeral, Mark’s family lawyer contacted OP and Lisa, informing them of their inheritance.
She wrote, “We both received a large sum of money in the seven figures, in the form of a trust. I also received Mark’s car collection, worth about half a million dollars, which included the 911 he taught me to drive in. Vivian got the rest, sold their house, and got a smaller apartment in London.”
An Envious Sister
It was not long before Kenzie learned what OP and Lisa had inherited. She immediately became jealous and demanded they share the money with her because they were “family.”
OP’s not keen on sharing her inheritance, and she couldn’t even access the trust fund until she was 30!
Pressure From Their Mom
OP’s mom started nagging her, calling her to ask that Kenzie get some money to pay for her college. But OP said her mom has “more than enough” for Kenzie’s college through the divorce settlement.
She shared, “The divorce settlement did not include a college fund for Kenzie. She was not born yet, but I believe it was enough to cover it.” So, OP told both Kenzie and her mom that it was her money, and Kenzie had “nothing to do with Mark or Vivian, and that’s why she didn’t get anything.”
Blinded by Money
What made OP even more furious was that her mom and half-sister were asking for Mark’s money when they didn’t even have the decency to attend his funeral.
Since then, OP has stopped talking to them since “they always find a way to bring it up during a conversation.”
Far Away From Their Desperate Claws
On the other hand, Lisa was luckier than OP because she lived in Stockholm with her fiancé. She wrote, “From what I understand, they haven’t bugged her much.”
