A Newfound Love
OP (Original Poster) has been with her husband for 9 years, and everything started when her now 10-year-old son was only a 1-year-old.
Broken Relationships
Up until the summer before this story was posted, OP and her family were very involved with her in-laws. However, everything changed in the blink of an eye.
Leading to Chaos
One time, OP’s son was getting water from the sink, and when he turned around, he slammed into OP’s brother-in-law, who was standing directly behind him.
Physical Abuse?
The moment the young boy slammed into him, OP’s brother-in-law immediately slapped him across the face!
OP wrote, “My brother-in-law had just had surgery on his back a few weeks prior, so my son running into him tweaked his back, and he immediately struck my son in the face as an ‘impulse reaction’ and made no effort to apologize.”
Say Your Thanks
Instead of apologizing, he “doubled down” and told OP’s son to “watch what he was doing next time.” He also joked that he was “lucky” things weren’t worse.
He said, “I wanted to punch you, so you’re lucky it was just a slap.”
To His Defense
To OP’s horror, her in-laws took her brother-in-law’s side. They all defended him and believed that everything was OP’s son’s fault!
A Hurt Young Boy
Given the circumstances, OP’s son was not only hurt by the smack, but he was also extremely embarrassed. So, he ran out of the house, went inside the car, and cried his eyes out.
As a mom, OP “lost her s*** entirely.”
Furious Parents?
OP’s husband was, thankfully, on her side during this time and was angry at his family. She shared, “I was pregnant during this time, and I told my husband at this point that his whole family was dead to me, and they were not meeting our baby. At that time, he agreed with me.”
In an edit, OP shared the police were called, and a report was made. However, the cops ultimately did nothing because, by the time they arrived, which was 45 minutes after the incident, there was “no visible mark” on OP’s son’s face anymore.
Holding a Grudge
As OP posted this story, it’s already been two months since she had their newborn, and she has “stood her ground.” There’s no way she’s allowing her in-laws to meet her baby!
She wrote, “His entire family sided with my brother-in-law smacking my son across the face, and they have no business being around my 10-year-old or my newborn. They can all get f*****.”
Who’s Wrong Here?
In fact, they’ve reached out to OP several times, expecting her and her husband to apologize for “causing a scene.” They also told her she should “get over” what her brother-in-law did.
Her in-laws had so many demands, while OP and her son never got an apology from them!
Switching Sides
However, OP noticed that her husband has been acting “super weird” for weeks.
She wrote, “Barely speaking to me. Barely texting me when he’s at work like he usually does, etc.”
Out Comes the Truth
When OP finally confronted him, he exploded. He was “p***** off” and defensively said, “You’ve written off my entire f****** family, but I’m expected to smile and play nice to your family.”
OP clarified, however, that they’ve only seen her side of the family once since she had the baby. She also reminded him about their “agreement.”
Taking Things Back
Sadly, her husband is now “back peddling,” saying she was the only one who made the decision.
Her husband turned the whole thing on her, saying it wasn’t about how she felt right now; it was about how he felt. OP’s husband even said she was making him “depressed.”
Well, Alright Then!
When he said that, OP just said she “didn’t give a f***.” She then reiterated that although he was depressed, she was never letting his family meet the baby.
Now her husband says she’s an “a**hole” for “disregarding” his “valid” feelings!
