This bride couldn’t believe how nasty her relatives acted on her wedding day, even after she begged them not to embarrass her. Now the best day of her life is the worst!
A Big Disaster
OP (Original Poster) is a 26-year-old who had just gotten married a week before this story was posted. Sadly, instead of being the perfect day she had always envisioned her wedding to be, it was “truly a disaster.”
Relatives’ Speeches
She shared that in her country, it was common to make “really sweet videos” right before the bride’s or groom’s parents’ speech. Usually, these videos included photos of the bride or groom when they were younger, pictures of them together, and pictures of family and friends.
Her Insecurities
However, OP mentioned that she’s “very insecure” of herself.
She wrote, “I used to be the short and fat friend when I was a teenager, and therefore I would get bullied by other people in school.”
It Never Went Away
OP’s skinnier now, but she was still “so self-conscious” about her body. Her husband, however, had tried to remind her that she was pretty no matter what.
Just for Laughs
Then, OP explained that when she was 22, she and her family went to a friend’s wedding. During the reception, the pictures in the video were “pretty funny yet kinda embarrassing” to the bride or the groom, but it was still silly.
She said, “After a week or so, I brought up the fact that the video was really cute, but I would never want to see those humiliating kinds of pictures at my wedding.”
Don’t Be Superficial!
However, OP’s dad told OP she was being “unreasonable.” He told her she shouldn’t be the only one having fun at her wedding; everyone should be.
OP retorted, “I tried to argue, saying that it would be my wedding and yes, I should be the one having fun the most, but that arguing got quickly shot down.”
One Last Warning
Then, the month before OP’s wedding, she again thought about the video she watched four years ago. So, she reminded her whole family that she would not “tolerate” a video displaying “embarrassing pictures” from her “fat teenage years.”
OP told them they could show any other picture other than those.
Promises Are Meant to Be Broken
OP’s parents promised that they wouldn’t do anything like that. However, they also said that OP was being “pretty stupid” because they were “old pictures,” and people wouldn’t even remember them once the wedding ended.
However, OP stood her ground and said she didn’t care; she still didn’t want anyone to see them. She said her “brain” would think others were “judging” her.
Wedding Gone Downhill
Then, OP’s family broke all their promises a week before this story was posted at OP’s wedding. “Embarrassing” pictures of OP showed up in the video; there were pictures of her eating lots of junk food, making weird faces, or just pictures of her she would never show anyone.
On the flip side, pictures of her husband when he was young were pretty cute and innocent, and no one laughed when they were showcased.
Ruining Her Perfect Day
For OP, the pictures her family displayed were “degrading and disgusting” in every way. Everyone started laughing at her, and she felt like she was reliving “trauma” from when she was a teenager.
She wrote, “I immediately started crying. My husband saw me but did nothing since he thought those were joy tears. When I started crying even harder, he got pretty worried and started asking what was wrong over and over again while holding me.”
Cherry on Top of the Cake
OP tried to hold it in and brush it off, saying she was okay. The moment she did, the video ended, and the speeches started.
She and her husband were so distracted that they couldn’t pay much attention to what OP’s relatives were saying—that is, until OP’s mom’s speech came up. OP wrote, “The last straw for me was when she said, ‘Well, we’re all so happy to be here. We never thought Ms. Piggy would get married; we all thought she would end up alone living in a cheap rented house with all her four smelly cats!’”
Enough’s Enough
At this point, OP couldn’t take it any longer. When she heard what her mom was saying, she got up, walked out of her wedding, and went outside the building where they were having the party.
Worried, OP’s husband followed her and hugged her while she was crying and screaming nonstop. She said, “I’ve never felt so disrespected before, and I didn’t expect my family to be the ones disrespecting me.”
Furious Family Members
Then, around 10 minutes later, OP’s family and some of her friends followed her outside, looking for her. Instead of comforting her and apologizing, OP’s parents were angry, saying she was “the one to blame” for all this since she should have just “sucked it up” and let them finish their speech “without making a scene.”
Some of OP’s relatives who were present backed them up, making OP feel even worse.
Her Number One Supporter
Thankfully, OP’s husband was there to support her. He angrily screamed that what they did was “so uncalled for.”
OP’s husband also told them to leave before he started “punching every single one of them.” She then said, “I went back home with my husband three hours after all that argument happened and cried all night long. We’re going to travel for our honeymoon tomorrow, but I’ve been a complete mess since then. They haven’t apologized, and I don’t think they are going to do so. What should I do now?”
